Really silly to see people grasping at straws against the reality of global climate change by still using examples from July 1936 (or 1976). The reality is increasingly obvious. Graphics are from slides in a presentation of mine, which use NASA/GISS GISTEMPv4 data (and their 1951-1980 baseline).

Humans are genetically engineered to ignore climate crisis: a long term, abstract threat is not going to filter through the immediate focus of proximity bias, and global solutions are not going to be realized through tribalism. Add religion and populism with erosion of trust in science... Nope.

Human caused climate change is a fact in direct opposition to core beliefs of the Republican party. That was not always the case. Nixon's papers show recognition, as also his actions in 1970 establishing both the EPA and NOAA. It took a lot of lobbying money and corporate funded media to switch.

So wrangle media out of billionaires hands for gods sake! i don't read this here in any posting of US americans. It's almost like a blind spot. You did break up robber baron power in the early 1900s. You can do it again.

The oligarchs use media all the time to sell their brands. They are masters of corporate media - the dominant media. Wresting control has been done, can be done... but the question then is whose vision fills the void. The modern world mostly wants to believe the propaganda offered. I recommend these

Climate change denialism is an interesting study in human psychology. It has so many facets— far more than other types of denialism. Most interestingly, you have the huge financial power of the fossil fuel industry pushing out climate change denialist disinformation.

Interesting how the areas with positive anomalies in 1976 are generally in the same locations as now, except that now they are much more extreme. Off the scale even...

I'm old enough to remember the summer of 1976. I was doing geology fieldwork in June in western Austria. While it was hot and dry there (see image), I was at least a few 100 m up, which helped. My family in the Netherlands was getting fried, they'd never experienced anything like it.
