Spent too much time creating the preview image for: foryou.club/atmosphere I pulled the current profile pics of the Bluesky accounts for each of the apps that the cross-lexicon For You feed shows. Not sure what's the deal with @pckt.blog Can you spot an Easter egg?

The Bluesky in the middle is meant to show how the Atmosphere For You feed works: It finds people who liked the same Bluesky posts as you and then shows what they have liked, starred, favorited, rsvp'd, reviewed, etc in other apps.

The number of people who enabled "Ask apps to hide my posts from algorithmic recommendations" is at 62,669 since the setting was launched in August. After the launch spike it was steadily going down for 8 days, but then jumped to a steady ~900 accounts per day - strangely uniform.

The last few weeks show a steady growth of likes, while the number of posts and likers has remained relatively stable. Potentially the Discover feed algorithm getting better. I've seen some positive sentiment towards Discover in "Discover feed" search results.

Where is the growth coming from? The top-100 accounts have the largest growth. (this data is from the likes tracked by For You which does not include likes on replies)

It would be cool to get podcast episode discovery powered by atproto. Imagine all your episode plays get recorded similar to teal.fm for songs The biggest issue with podcasting is that it is not an inherently shareable medium. Automatic play tracking and collaborative discovery can change that.

Beyond automatic episode play tracking it would be easy to add your comments/ratings to individual episodes. For example, I listened to this podcast episode bsky.app/profile/dand... ... and for the first time heard a clear explanation of carbon dating. While I wouldn't post about it on Bluesky

Fun fact - the After Dark version is indeed used relatively less during the day (11am to 7pm ET) than the Daylight version.

It looks like "Popular With Friends" stopped being chronological for many people. Is this where Bluesky experimenting with an new algorithmic feed? If true, then why experiment on that feed instead of Discover where users already expect it to be non-chronological?

I rely on the post labels for the filtering. Which means unlabeled adult content will make it through to ☀️ For You and will be hidden in 🌙 For You.
