The werewolf entered the nursery, reaching the crying baby. “Um, don’t be afraid, Sweetie,” she says. “Mommy’s just, wolfy right n—” Wide eyed, she lifts a werewolf pup from the crib. “Well! I guess it’s inherited! We’re gonna need chew toys!” #vss #sff

“Who are you, Sir?” He swirls wine in his glass, tiny in his sutured hand. “Some call me a creature, a monster, a murderer. I regret the last is true. In that I am monstrous, but a creature? No. I am a patchwork of men, albeit with a soul plucked from void.” #vss #sff

On a long October night, I found a wolf in a trap. Too beautiful to let die, I hid my fear and freed her under a white moon. I awoke at dawn to her changing into a woman. We saw each other’s soul. We told our stories. And we were never lonely again. #vss #sff

Submissions are now closed for October’s #SciFanSat issue, and we have begun assembling it for publication on Saturday, 10.31.2026. Many thanks to all the writers and poets who submitted pieces! Below are our upcoming themes for the rest of the year. #SFF #AmWritingScifi #AmWritingFantasy

He glares through a thicket of crucifixes within the exorcism trap. “Scared of returning to Hell, ghost?” the televangelist yells. The phantom walks through it all and grabs the preacher’s throat. “Wrong team. Satan didn’t send me to stop your sins.” #SciFanSat #vss #sff

I walk with her through the museum’s Hall of Weapons: A steady evolution from flint arrowheads to triangular, transnuclear orbital drones. Then abrupt, empty hallway. “Curator,” the child asks. “What happened?” “Progress,” I answer. “Finally.” #vss #sff

I walk into a calm, quiet room of meditating monks. The old man sits to rest. “This is our vanguard against the Great Beast Mind.” “Martial artists?” I ask. “Psychics,” my guide answers. “Warriors of the mind holding a depraved astral god at bay.” #vss #sff

Sundown came, the lunar shifts happened, and the couple dealt with the inconvenience of fixing dinner as werewolves in a too-small kitchen. “My family always freaked out at full moon,” she said. He chopped onions. “Not mine! We stayed in and played board games.” #vss #sff

The homunculus is toddler-sized and proportioned, but has adult features. She loads the shotgun and hands it to him. “How can you do that?” he asks. “You’re two-hours old!” “I have your skills, Master!” “Don’t call me that.” “Boss?” “No.” She squints. “Dad?” “No!” #vss #sff

“Really? The has-been actor?” “What? No, that’s not what I said at all! I said this coastline is metamorphic, always changing. A fjord one day, a carpet of tall wetland grass or sandy beach the next. It’s a polyshore!” “Sorry. All I heard was... Pauly Shore.” #vss #sff

Rixla missed another drone starfighter. “I can’t hit them!” “Switch seats!” Tim yelled. The kids swapped chairs, the blue girl taking control of the Phoenix. “Can you shoot?” “Can you do a barrel roll?” The spaceship spun dodging ion bolts as Tim finally blasted a drone to bits. #vss #sff

There came a day When I simply passed away Now “Boo” is all they say about me! The end came, ya know? I’m just a ghost and so: Life Goes on Without me, ‘Cause I-I-I-I-I ain’t got no body! #SciFanSat #vss #sff

Our last rocket breaches space as fascists and food rioters smash our doors. They will never touch it. Golden records. Enshrined knowledge. Our gift to the civilizations that will come after us. Awaiting, gleaming in Luna’s arms… Within her crater of Tycho. #vss #sff

“Why does Miffin stare at the kitchen wall?” “Cats just do that sometimes,” her mom answers, leading the child to dinner. Four soulless eyes in a halo of tentacles glare at the mackerel tabby. A cat’s pounce sends it scurrying back through a dimensional crack. #vss #sff

“Mom!” “Yes?” “We need the hose!” “Why?” “We built a robot from the refrigerator cardboard!” “You’ll wreck it if you get it wet.” “That’s why we need it!” “What?” “I used magic! It’s chasing Tom!” “Oh! Come on little witch, my broom is also in the shed!” #vss #sff

“Do you hate the people of Skyland?” “I hate the rock they live on. Floating islands seem wonderful, until one eclipses the sky over your homeland. Until you live beneath it in starless night, interrupted only by the ring of twilight horizon that remains of the day.” #vss #sff

“The worst intrigue I’ve faced? The Jester Assassin, m’lady.” She smiles. “Killing jokes?” “No. Puns,” the old advisor said. “Death by disgust!” “Ghastly. How did you ever survive?” “I’m hard of hearing,” he nodded. “It was a near-deaf experience.” #vss #sff

A piano roll spun, and ‘Daisy Bell’ played as a bounty hunter of wood and clockwork entered the saloon. Sid the Kid leaned on the bar. “I hate that song!” The repurposed piano automaton spied him, raised revolvers, and switched to playing Chopin’s funeral march. #vss #sff

He crashed through fragile flame: An unseen soul struggling to crawl from candlelight. He latched onto the hand of the medium leading the séance. For the first time, the conwoman heard the dead speak. “Save yourself!” he said. “These people murder psychics!” #SciFanSat #vss #sff

“Who are you?” The figure in an astronaut suit taps the wide brim of the pointed hat on their helmet. “Isn’t it obvious? I’m the Great Space Wizard!” “Who are you, really?” They open their mirrored visor, revealing an empty helmet. “Nobody. Everybody. All at once.” #vss #sff

“So, this assassin robot, are we talking something like the Terminator?” The agent almost guffaws, then holds up vial containing a fly-sized drone. “Whisper quiet. Painlessly injects self-replicating nanites that cause something inconspicuous, like an aneurysm.” #vss #sff
