The Goats. Amazing song! That is all. Ok, more - who else laughed out loud when Fairytale of Philly played? I knew it was coming at some point but still cracked up. And learned so much already and we’ve only just begun… I’m on Sat 1-4 and Sun 8a-10a but listening non-stop!

One of my jobs the past week was trying to “land the plane” and time out the #XPNCountdown to end around 6p-ish today - this is my worksheet as I was scheduling (and rescheduling) each day, adding hours as needed, artist interviews, and trying to have it all time out. Who needs a computer?

You know what’s wild that I can share now with y’all? 16 different covers of Love Will Tear Us Apart got votes, none made #xpncountdown - same with 15 versions of I’m on Fire, 14 God Only Knows, 12 Wicked Games, 11 Purple Rains, 10 Enter Sandmans… lot of great songs, no definitive cover! xpn.org

As we hurtle towards the Top 100 on this last day of the #XPNCountdown, I can verify that Mike V is going to talk to 2 artists who have songs in the Top 100 and Dan Reed will hear from an artist in the Top 10. But who? And when? And about what songs? Keep listening! xpn.org

Some Vinyl Day pics from today at @wxpnfm.bsky.social - so far! Thx to Sean, Ted, Sadie, Lisa, Grace still to come: Charlie Hall at 7, Robert Drake at 8, Kurt Vile at 9, then Joey Sweeney and me til midnight. If I’m still awake. (If you hear a lot if ka-chunk ka-chunk, you’ll know!)

Stoked to return to DSP and play 5.3 with Reeder Station, featuring Steve Garvey (Buzzcocks, not Dodgers) on bass!

The No Good Crowd@thenogoodcrowd.bsky.social

Yo friends! We are playing 5/3/25 at Dawson’s with Reeder Station. Now back to your blue sky…

Sad news from MN today with my heart going out to all in the #millcitysound family. Mill City is my favorite record store and it starts with Rob Sheeley, his love for the music, people that worked and shopped there. He will be greatly missed and live in our hearts (and album collections) forever.

Thank you #DavidLynch - spending tonight Re-watching the Twin Peaks TV series for the first time in nearly 35 years and loving it as it comes flooding back into my brain, remembering how cool and trippy it was to see this on network TV in 1990.

Filling in for Kristen on the @wxpnfm.bsky.social morning show today with birthday boy Bob Bumbera! And since today is the day after our Philly Loves Bowie hero David’s bday, it’s kinda The Next Day - Bob’s bday. So let’s celebrate The Bob today! We’ll do so musically with more Bowie!

New music from my band for 2025 - starting with a Bowie cover - it’s almost been 9 years, but miss his music and wisdom still!

The No Good Crowd@thenogoodcrowd.bsky.social

The No Good Crowd are kicking off 2025 with new music! First up - for #bowieweek - our cover of Cat People, featuring friend (and Bowie band member) Emm Gryner - give a listen or get the download - it’s up on Bandcamp now and coming to DSPs on 1.7.25. thenogoodcrowd.bandcamp.com/track/cat-pe...

Happy holidays all! Now taking over the holiday mix on WXPN from 12-2 - a bit of The Pogues and we’ll be off to the races - a lotta Felizing our Navidad! Photos of some breakfast crepes and presents under this tree this morning at Christine Weeks’ mom Helma’s.

When I saw Ricky Henderson’s name pop up on my phone yesterday, I assumed it was news he was trying another comeback. Rest in peace to my favorite baseball player growing up, a genius of the game who presaged where the sport was going years ahead of its time. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/21/s...

nytimes.comRickey Henderson, Baseball’s Flamboyant ‘Man of Steal,’ Dies at 65Widely regarded as the greatest leadoff hitter in baseball history, he was not just one of the game’s most exciting players but also one of its most eccentric.

Sad to hear of Slim’s passing. Sending love to Chrissie, Emily and his family. When I met him he was sweet, kind, funny, generous. I wrote a song inspired by one of his, when Emily told me it made him smile it was the best praise I ever felt as a songwriter. www.theguardian.com/music/2024/d...

Another great year of new music! I get these things down to about 15 or so, then go with what I’m feeling on that day. The day I did this in was before I’d heard Kiwanuka or FJM, who might have made mine if I did it today. @wxpnfm.bsky.social is playing host faves all week and MegaList on Friday!

From Waxahatchee and The Last Dinner Party to The Dare and Amyl and the Sniffers, here's Jim McGuinn's @jmcgnn.bsky.social list of his 10 best lps of 2024.

Thx to everyone for listening and playing along to the #xpncountdown - it’s been an awesome week+ of radio to be part of and much love to our audience, staff, and the artists that made up this gloriously bonkers list! Here’s a dive into the story of our collective #1 xpn.org/2024/12/12/8...

xpn.orgSong No. 1: "Seven Nation Army" by The White StripesThe White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" is a song of scorned determination and an unbreakable part of the 21st century's pop cultural DNA.

Interesting Back to Black at #9 finished higher than Rehab (#14) which was the biggest radio hit off Amy’s album. But given the tragedy of her too short life, not surprising BtB resonates more now. Lucky to have seen her in a small SXSW gig before she went mega. Such a tragic loss. #xpncountdown

Favorite song by The Killers, inspired by my pal Matt Pinfield, who was trying to sign them to Columbia (they went with Island, but wrote this after their dinner together). Pic from show in Camden last year - glad it scored well on #xpncountdown - coming in #63. Got soul, but I ain’t a soldier.

Fun piece from @emilybloch.com in Inky about Spotify Wrapped (Sidebar: have I mentioned again lately how Spotify is The Devil? Just checking) and a great side app How Bad Is Your Spotify that will eviscerate your taste in snark - here’s my spot-on profile:

Hey - yeah! Hope to see some of ya - free show / hang 8-10 with my pop combo @thenogoodcrowd.bsky.social this Friday 12/6 at Philly Brewing Company. Woot! C’mon Philly @jaketapper.bsky.social @mikethatch.bsky.social @

I love train stations. They are a moment I can pretend I live in Europe. This is 30th Street Station in Philly. We are taking my German mother-in-law Helma to NYC to see an art exhibition at The Shed called Luna Luna to celebrate her Bday, then eat at a French Bistro in Chelsea. #ResistThruArt
