Oil may be flowing through the strait, but at the unsustainable cost of keeping the US Navy stuck in the Arabian Sea. Trump has proven the failure of America First and that success requires the help of allies he has spent a lifetime denouncing. newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/the-diplom...
Trump can’t talk his way out of this one.
He fumbled part of his most recent speech so badly that he ended up with the suggestion of Iran bombing U.S. cities.
In typical fashion, the White House is saying you didn't hear clearly that which you obviously did.

The far-right ideologues and grifters running U.S. foreign policy are the vanguard of a movement that will alter not just America but the world, @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu reports.
This week on World Review: Iran. Ukraine. Cuba. And the question in each case is the same: Success? Failure? Or Stalemate? newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/world-revi...
This week — the dangers of AI are becoming clearer, the CIA may be behind the droning of a fishing boat, what Trump can learn from Putin on deception, and how America is losing power. Enjoy! newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/what-caugh...
A new Pentagon questionnaire sent to America's 31 NATO allies puts fealty above common interests, divides the allies among themselves, weakens collective defense, and ultimately could destroy NATO.

You may have seen the scary headlines about migrants from Morocco “crossing into Spain.”
There’s some important context missing: they reached a Spanish territory in North Africa, not mainland Europe.
That distinction matters. But FoxNews and the adminstration doesn't want you to know this
from Casey Michel: "Trump simply announced that there was a whole suite of legislation that folks no longer needed to worry about. He had created a new legal architecture by fiat," providing a road map for crooked regimes and corrupt oligarchs

A belated post on what caught my eye this week: A build up of assets around Cuba, the US-China competition, and how Venezuela’s failed earthquake response traces back to years of corruption and incompetence. newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/what-caugh...
Donald Trump leads the most callous, corrupt, and incompetent administration in America's history.
In the midterm elections, We the People will put a check on their power.
I think what you’re seeing in WI and the closer than expected Michigan senate race, it’s less about the Dems wanting to go far far left and more about wanting fighters. Completely normal desire in this Trump moment
Here’s what caught my eye this week: Rahm Emanuel’s speech telling Israel the hard truth, as only a true friend can. How the US response to Venezuela’s earthquake pales in comparison to the Haiti earthquake. And how Europe lost faith in Trump’s America. newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/what-caugh...
This week: Ukraine, the AI Race, and how politics in the US is changes were top stories that caught my eye. Also, don’t miss the interview with former Energy Secretary Ernie Moniz on the Iran nuclear talks. newsletter.ivodaalder.com/p/what-caugh...
Trump ripped up the walkway between the West Wing and the mansion to replace it with polished African granite carved in Italy. "Paid for by me," he claimed. Except that's not true. Taxpayers paid $689,232, per documents obtained by @michaelscherer.bsky.socialwww.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
Today’s episode of “you can’t make this up:”
Trump set out to prove voter fraud in the voting machines. And found not a single instance of fraud, so they’re pretending the study never happened
The White House: “look how amazing the reflective pool is suck it libs Obama had Algae this beautiful pool is what Trump does for America”
-one week later-
(Algae everywhere peeling paint)
WH: “why do you guys obsess about the reflective pool!?”
Ken Paxton’s own party impeached him.
His own staff reported him to the FBI.
Now his own defense attorney is endorsing our campaign.
Those closest to Ken Paxton know he's unfit for office.
Trump wants Congress to "expunge" his impeachments from the historical record.
There's just one problem: history doesn't work that way.
A vote can't erase what happened. It can't erase January 6th. And it can't erase the record future generations will read.

The Iran War, of course. But also a tale of bobbing heads with Russia and a must-red profile of Sam Altman. Plus links to a whole bunch of interviews I did this past week. open.substack.com/pub/ivodaald...
Trump's primetime address didn't clarify anything. Its nuclear weapons are buried, its regime has been changed, the Strait will "open naturally," its military has been devastated, Trump claimed of Iran. But we still need 2-3 weeks to do ... what? My take youtu.be/n89bisimA38?...
BREAKING
Voice of America staffers say in a new lawsuit that the Trump admin and Kari Lake have “censored news coming out of Iran,” including “stories about anti-government protests” and opposition to the regime.
They’ve sued over a breach of the statutorily-protected editorial firewall.
It’s high time for the media to stop reporting every statement by Trump on the war as factual or true. It’s very doubtful there were any talks with Iran, let alone “productive” talks. His statement was all about markets, not about ending the war.
