I need help with my ASO. I changed Tobi's name from "Tobi: Home Maintenance" to "Home Maintenance planner: Tobi" and my keyword ranking just plummeted. The change happened on Tuesday. Do I change it back? Do I leave it and see if it improves? #buildinpublic #shipaton #indiedev

Redo of my screenshots based on feedback I received. I know I'm not using all 10 slots, but I feel like these present a problem and solution better. How'd I do this time around? #shipaton #buildinpublic

This last week was a whirlwind: - Daily reels on my IG and Tobi’s IG to get people to see Tobi exists - Updated the website in prep for launch - Blog started on Tobi’s website for SEO - Suggestions going into the app - 1st AB test of onboarding into Tobi #shipaton

Nobody hands you a manual when you buy your first home. Who do you call when a pipe bursts. How often are you supposed to clean your dryer vent. What's the filter size for your HVAC.

That list has been on my mind a lot. It's a big part of why I started building an app to help people actually keep up with their home. Not a checklist blog post, something you can share with your whole household.

Marking a task done in Tobi could have been one field, but I decided to wqrite a document per completion. Adds some reads and writes, but I think it's worth it for the whole history. #shipaton #buildinpublic

Is there a macOS app and #iOS app I can download (or buy) to easily add device frames to videos? I’m getting annoyed doing them myself in Final Cut Pro. #appDeveloper

A monorepo was the right choice for Tobi. It uses Firebase as the backend, Swift/SwiftUI for Apple apps, and Astro for gettobi.com. Keeping everything in a mono repo, means the LLM can easily grab the context it needs to across domains. I think it really sped up my dev time. #shipaton #buildinpublic

gettobi.comTobi — Home Maintenance App for the Whole HouseholdTobi is a home maintenance app the whole household shares: one log of every task, the electrical panel schedule, and reminders so upkeep never lapses.

Tobi’s electrical panel could not be a basic list. A breaker panel is not just a collection of circuit names. It is a physical layout, and the software has to represent that layout accurately. #buildinpublic #shipaton

Those circuits cannot be represented accurately as ordinary rows in a list. The interface has to understand which physical slots are occupied, which circuits share a slot, and which circuits extend across multiple positions.

That is why Tobi’s panel schedule uses a purpose-built interface that mirrors the real breaker box. The goal is not just to store circuit labels. It is to make the digital panel match what someone sees when they open the physical one. Head to https:.//gettobi.com to see the product version.

Most residential panels use two columns. Odd-numbered slots run down the left side. Even-numbered slots run down the right. Each row represents a physical pair of breaker positions. That structure matters when you are standing in front of the actual panel.

Then the exceptions make it more complicated. A tandem breaker can place two separate circuits into one slot. A double-pole breaker controls one circuit but spans two slots, often for something like a range, dryer, or heat pump.

Release date set. Website updated. Still looking for beta users, so signing up on the waitlist will get you access to the beta also. #shipaton #buildinpublic

Such a nice little article explaining the difference of the group modifiers nilcoalescing.com/blog/Geometr... I used the drawingGroup() in onboardings on pieces of UI that I need to render statically. It felt like a cheat code when I found it for Camp Notes onboarding.

nilcoalescing.comGeometry, compositing and drawing groups in SwiftUILearn how SwiftUI's similarly named geometryGroup(), compositingGroup() and drawingGroup() modifiers affect distinct stages of animation and rendering, and when each is appropriate.

Make sure you're adding analytics to your product for #Shipaton if you want to measure the growth and impact of your changes. Can't prove you've improved over time without the numbers. Also analytics really helps prove to yourself that what you're adding is working for your users.

Working on adding in suggested tasks to Tobi based on the item selected, but the Foundation models are just really slow when testing 10 - 20 seconds. This is really just unacceptable timing, so I'm still hacking on it. #shipaton #buildinpublic

Using SwiftUI environments and still struggle with missing environments... It's only on macOS when running from an iPad, so I have to think it is not completely my fault. I am just trying to test Tobi's suggested task feature #shipaton #buildinpublic

I added Greptile into my workflow as I've been ✨ vibe coding ✨ more. It's a great addition catching some security errors and some logic errors. It's also keeping me a bit updated on what's acceptable Typescript 😬 #buildinpublic

Working on making it my best year yet. In the last year I went from $24 MRR to $76 MRR. I shipped 3 apps I have a new app Tobi in review (hoping that's reviewed by August 1st) Far away from my $1000 MRR goal I set last October, but I'm inching my way there. #iosdev #buildinpublic

I'v been working on the web version of Tobi but started hacking on a Task suggestion feature on the Apple version. Now, I think I should work on making a better iPadOS and macOS version before the web app. #shipaton #buildinpublic

I think it's time to start building out social pages for Tobi. Gotta start building the hype and being able to reach people where they are. Since starting the home buying process, I've been hit with so many DIY and home reno reels that I feel like Tobi's gotta be on instagram at least. #shipaton

Only 4 impressions on Google Search Engine Console, but Tobi is getting there. Gotta start somewhere. Not only am I working on the web app, but I am also working on some evergreen content to start ranking for "home maintenance" #shipaton #buildinpublic

So this is the first thing you see when you open Tobi. It doesn't really tell you much. When a user taps on the 1st button, they get walked through making a home and adding a task, but I feel like there might need to be some lead up. What do yall think? #shipaton #buildinpublic

Tobi v1.0.0 has been submitted for app review. Submitting early to be able to hit any issues found through the App Store review process. #buidinpublic #shipaton Now time to get to work on a web version.

Tweaked Tobi’s website to be more SEO-friendly. The 3 main features each have a dedicated page and I built out an electrical panel labeler gettobi.com/tools/panel-... SEO takes time to pay off so better to start early and build organic traffic. #shipaton #buildinpublic

gettobi.comFree Electrical Panel Label Template (Printable) — TobiFill in your breaker box directory in the browser and print a panel label sized for the inside of your panel door. Free, no signup, any panel size from 12 to 42 slots.

Received feedback on the panel editor in Tobi that the placement section was confusing, so I made a change to where the placement is now all tapped based. You tap on the slots it takes up. I like the UX, but I'm not sure if the half slots read as half slots #shipaton #buildinpublic #iosApp

Why did I build Tobi? My wife and I are buying a house, and I was getting really concerned about all the projects that come with a house and keeping track of all the maintenance that happens every X days/months/years and thought there has got to be a better way #buildinpublic #shipaton

After a couple of weeks, I have a TestFlight ready app that allows me to add people to a household, add recurring tasks, get notified, and share it all with my wife, which is the real test of how smooth it is.

We talked with some friends about how they keep track of it all and their answer was a google sheet, which looked amazing, but it didn't look very mobile friendly. I knew what I had to do at that point and got working.
