Running a mediawiki instance is such a trip man. I love dealing with PHP AI bros leaking a zero day 14 hours before disclosure, and still no word on a patch. love doing some last minute firefighting (mostly figuring out an apparmor profile, we already had most of the patches, minus upload progress)

It's also really unfortunate with how far we've been taking other security work for mediawiki that just doesn't help (we've invested pretty heavily in Shellbox for example, and removing commands from the host as much as possible, into a firecracker microvm with jailer).

Sent a single DM to someone i've shared multiple servers with for years on Discord, and immediately got logged out of all my devices, and got a Spam warning that required me to reverify my account. (attached is a screenshot of the DM).

Someone thinks it was the wave emoji. Someone thinks it was talking about LLVM, only spammers dare message about LLVM and PowerPC.

So uh, a few months ago I made a post on my Mastodon about being psyched about getting a very early Wii-U devkit (a white one "V4"), the first one that had been sold/dumped publicly. Well uh today I can say we successfully secured 4 (Factory/Nintendo Only) Wii-U devkits that are just as old.

And before you ask "Do these units have hard-drives/Any Data?" Wii-U Devkits were commonly used in "PCFS" mode meaning they got all their files from a PC (these units are all PCFS), and switching between PCFS & not triggered a secure wipe. So the hard drives are empty (we checked).

The internal nand is also likely empty of any games. There is a small chance we may get some factory firmware/system files, but it is being the most charitable we can be ~20% chance. I've been working on a remote dumper to be able to dump the NAND of PCFS mode CAT-DEVs, that we will use on these.

So uh, a few months ago I made a post on my Mastodon about being psyched about getting a very early Wii-U devkit (a white one "V4"), the first one that had been sold/dumped publicly. Well uh today I can say we successfully secured 4 (Factory/Nintendo Only) Wii-U devkits that are just as old.

These units (lovingly referred to as "Ketchup" & "Mustard"), were never documented anywhere in any SDKs, contain internal only JTAG boards (it is not currently known if the JTAG goes to the Starbuck ARM CPU, or the Espresso PowerPC CPU), and have some extra goodies.

I've documented a bit about them on the RGD Wiki: wiki.raregamingdump.ca/index.php/CA... (I think I've written all of this page at this point heh). We'll be working on dumping them, and bringing support to them to Sprig (codeberg.org/rem-verse/sp... -- our open source tooling for units like these).

My free time (not hanging out with friends) has basically been hacking the Wii-U devkits, and reading a non-stop stream of every lesbian romance book I can find (I’m over 45 now), and the urge to start a thread about all the lesbian books I’ve read is high.

Just thought that it's funny to mention, the largest files on the Wii-U CDN by far are from the game "One PIece Unlimited World Red" which means not only is it the longest running anime, it also eats up the most storage space of Nintendo's CDN (pre switch era), as well as my mirrors.

Soo wii-u devkits have the ability to read files from the PC rather than their own internal NAND (in fact the default mode reads every file from the PC all the way from boot1->files on disk). Well now that i've figured the basics of it out, enough to unbrick them, the question had to be asked....

is it possible to mount the ENTIRE developer CDN? Turns out..... yes (it took 30 minutes to fully load the title list). Also because it's all networked traffic, we can mount the entire developer CDN while only downloading about ~750mbs locally.

super non-important, but is cool to me thing with help from @gerbilsoft.bsky.social , myself and gerbilsoft got vWii working on wii-u devkits, and dev consoles. Wii-U Kiosk units, Starlight Units, CAT-R units, and CAT-DEV units can now launch a wii menu for the first time.

i enjoy moments just as it starts to rain. the world goes from dry surfaces spotted with rain, through some interstitial period where you can see both textures, to completely soaked. it's never clear exactly when the change was, and it's somehow always difficult to imagine the dry texture again
