random encounters exist because the combat is fun you are supposed to enjoy it, if you dont enjoy it you should be playing a different video game, i dont understand how this conversation keeps happening

i think there a lot of games where I didn't like the combat or is mid or whatever, but then everything else is swinging pretty hard.

i feel like so much of these discussions are from people who don't like playing the games but play them anyways, like just play god of war ragnarok man its fine, turn based rpgs are a niche genre it doesnt need to be for you

The two prongs of the discussion are always "I am upset when I am not included in thing other people like?" And "hell yes I'm so awesome for liking this thing woooo" and it will never end as long as the human race persists

Non random encounters been around so damn long too it's a choice when it's used. People act like it's an old school thing when there's plenty of old games without it.

I tried to write up all my feelings on game design and the benefit of varied levels of mental engagement and what's good about a random encounter with shit-ass goblins when you are level 99 and gave up because you cut it to the quick with "if you don't like it it's not for you"

I cannot argue someone into liking classic JRPG design I cannot find the perfect debate strategy for convincing people that mashing auto-attack while I'm grinding to buy x99 elixirs is good I should not attempt it. I should just play the game I like.

i like playing rpgs i like pressing my skills and watching my characters attack and i get experience and gold and Items Perhaps? sometimes i realize that a lot of people actually don't like the gameplay part of the rpg and i get very confused

also sometimes the random encounters can make things scary and tense. running around at low health in an area with some dangerous enemies and praying that they don't jump you and blow you to smithereens. this is also fun!

it drives me nuts that people can't seem to understand that not every game and every genre is for everyone. jrpg combat doesn't need to solved.
