I read about an investigation where the reporter met young men in Nigeria who are exploited into carrying out these scams and just believe the victims are rich and can pay everyone off. No idea they are killing people by blackmail.

American businesses run by elite (mostly wty toxic men) don't care about keeping any teenagers safe. They care only about profiting off of datamining those teens and ensuring patriarchal entitlement to sexual violence of the vulnerable (incl. teens and young children). Epstein island proved that.

The part that gets me is how fast these scams move once they've got a screenshot. Hours, not days. Most parents have no idea the timeline is that compressed.
