Happy for him, but they took the joy of being present at his child's birth away, and for what?

The fact that this is the first time he's seen his son is just horrific to me. Those early weeks are so crucial for bonding, they're full of utterly magical moments, but they're also very tough as a parent and I can't imagine his wife going through it without him. May he never miss another day.
