This was a great episode but hearing the theory that gaming might be a specifically millennial phenomenon did some psychic damage. The more I think about it the more obvious it is. Wild to think that when we're dead, textbooks will define our generation by the consoles we had.

It's very much not obvious to me! I'm a millennial, but for reasons I didn't really play video games until I was 20, and now I play a lot, mostly indie games. The experiences they discuss at the beginning of the episode do feel alien to me

I never went through the console buying cycle, I started with old games so they could run on my laptop, then rented paperspace or other nvidia now to be able to play other things, and eventually got a decent PC. I don't think the only way into gaming is to grow up with the industry

I disagree, it's the casino-ification and the gaming as a service and the micro transactions that's causing developers to quit and the constant rollercoaster layoffs and rehires making the entire industry toxic.

the whole point of AI is just....... save tons of money by stealing. Just steal labour. Steal it from working talent. That's the entire thing. It's revolutionary because it's stealing. that's really all it is
