I've seen them do this. It's BRUTAL. I was on a road trip along the coast when they were training in water so violent it was almost flipping their vessels, plus there were rocks nearby. Watched for almost 40 minutes in awe at the skill and fortitude it took to handle those crashing waves.

My son was a USCG rescue swimmer for 30 years. This didn’t happen.

I’ve seen these guys training in Norfolk and they are as heroic as they come. They rappel out of helicopters into the Chesapeake during rainstorms. In January. It’s wild. Just astounding courage! 🫡

During times of war the Coast Guard becomes (or it used to anyway) part of the Navy. Which could by why it was DoD when you were in the military.

Good for him! We need more people to step up for this kind of dangerous job. But we should also honor ALL of the selfless men and women who risked their lives to help and rescue their fellow citizens, many of whom did so with no training or equipment. And I bet Mr. Ruskan would agree.

Amazing what this guy did. Sucks who recognized him for it. My stepdad was buried in a military cemetery last month. The attendant whispered in my mom's ear that she can get a new burial certificate signed by a different president when Trump is out of office.
