Le Guin is probably my favorite writer EVER, certainly the first one to make me sit up and think as well as read. She's the forerunner of sf that was based on sociology and anthropology rather than engineering. My favorites are Left Hand of Darkness, the Dispossessed, and the Earthsea cycle.

Le Guin’s "Catwings" Series 4 bk set about a litter of winged kittens navigating life in both city & country settings 1988-Orchard Books Mrs. Jane Tabby’s four kittens Thelma, Roger, James, & Harriet escape the dangerous city slums, but soon discover that rural life has its own challenges.

In college in the early 1980s, I read four books that changed my perspective about women in the patriarchy: The Color Purple by Alice Walker, The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin, and Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions by Gloria Steinem.

I love these, but could you bring more indigenous, and non-European women to highlight. I’m sure there are some to point out from outside of the US and Europe.

One of the very first transgender speculative fiction novels. It made me think about what gender and gender expectations mean. I’m cis/hetero—it’s a human question and we should embrace all truthful, empathic answers.

Yes, LHoD is an INCREDIBLE book. Required reading for anyone looking to dive into top tier science fiction. Do not skip this one, and read her other books while you’re at it.

"Besides, when you say you're a feminist it annoys the bigots and the old farts and the prissy ladies so much, it's kind of irresistible." Ursula K. Le Guin 🫅
