People, I am happy to network extensively -- that's what this community is all about -- BUT please create a profile, however short or absurd, and make at least one post if you want anyone to follow you back!

It's National Pumpkin Day! I'm sure you've heard the joke about how trmp is like a Hallowe'en pumpkin: 1. Fat and orange 2. Hollow inside 3. Gets thrown out in early November. That's why we vote blue, the complementary color to orange. If you haven't already, GO VOTE, and check your ballot.

I woke up at 5.30 with excitement (and also to take out the bin). Glorious full moon AND victories in Brazil and Serbia AND continuing protests in France AND it's National Pumpkin Day! Okay, from the sublime to the ridiculous, but still -- plenty to celebrate!

Okay... Bolsonaro is out, Serbia's dictator is out, next will be Netanyahu's defeat, then our blue wave in the US. Kicking authoritarianism off the planet, one country at a time!

Very exciting news from Brazil: Lula won Brazil’s presidential runoff with 51.74% of the vote, defeating Bolsonaro, who received 48.26%. With 97.69% of ballot boxes counted, the result marked a reversal of the first-round outcome and set a precedent in the country’s democratic electoral history.

It's 25. October, Full Hunters Moon AND Mercury retrograde AND I am still nearly 900 miles away from home AND having trouble with my stepmother. Please can we skip to 28. October, which is World Chocolate Day?!

It's 24. October, or Comfy Chair Day. I really need to finish some writing, but the WARs (Work Avoidance Rituals) took over. Here is my week, illustrated by Sandra Boynton!

It's 23. October, and we're celebrating Mole Day. This is the best drawing I could find -- thank you, Sandra Boynton. I get it, this is probably not a mole, but that's okay because the mole being celebrated today is actually the chemical kind. Oh, well.

You know that new Fraud Hotline? The website accuses various government departments of fraud, when we all know it was DOGE that inflicted any fraud that was detected. Plus side, look how people have been using this 'service'...

Texans, go VOTE to make these figures a solid victory for Democrats. Really, there IS no contest here between three honest, intelligent candidates and three incumbents who have driven Texas ever lower on every metric. Make sure everyone around you gets to the polls AND verifies their ballot!

Thanks for reposting, Christopher. In the UK in the early 1980s, I lived in a community outside Sheffield; one of my fellow communards was Chris Pike. I am quite sure you are not he, but the name lands softly on my ears.

Today is 20. October, when we celebrate Goth Sloths in an entirely relaxed manner. I'm not sure where the goth part comes into it -- this looks like a normal sloth to me.

Rant incoming: I am seriously fed up with this constant carping (on FB) that Dr. Abdul el-Sayed is somehow misrepresenting himself because he is not a physician in clinical practice. He's got an MD from Columbia, and PhD in Epidemiology from OXFORD. So in fact he's a paradox (pair o' docs).

#Knitsky Here's the Feather+Fan shawl I just finished. The pattern is Shetland Swash Shawl by Denise E. M. Bartels, available for free from ravelry.com; I used about 190g of Knitpicks Bare Capretta, which is fingering weight, or 460m per 100g. On the left is where I pinned it out for blocking.

Today is 17. October -- International Archeology Day. Leaving the floor open for snarky remarks about digging for intelligence and/or integrity in the middens of this administration...
