"Many times after a bombing, I felt like I was standing over a mass grave... but of people who are alive and stuck there." Al Jazeera Gaza Correspondent Youmna ElSayed recounts her family's harrowing journey south after being forced to flee their home, in this excerpt from our documentary, GAZA. 🧵

The family of Wael Dahdou, Al Jazeera's Gaza bureau chief, was killed by an Israeli air strike on Nuseirat refugee camp on October 25th, 2024.

Youmna's own family was still in Gaza City at the time. "A call comes from a private number... and he was like, 'We know who you are. Take your family and leave your home, otherwise your lives are in danger.'"

"They said that we have five minutes to leave the building... So we grabbed our children, and we left."

Thousands of other families were trying to flee Gaza City at the same time.

"Those who were killed, everything was left on the ground, for the people who were crossing to see. I made my children promise me they would not look at the ground at all. Not once."

It is beyond shocking that IDF forces videotaped their crimes. They have become emboldened by the international communit’s failure to act! They have lost their humanity!
