ugh. I have an idea for a game and I don't know if it'll work and to find out I'd basically have to make the whole game, which would be technically tricky.
I don't think I can easily prototype this at all, and I really don't want to spend a week coding a non-game
Minimum viable product. Such a prototype for Mario kart might be two squares that two players can move around a top down track that's just a still image.
basically I want to build a game out of 3D Movie Maker's camera system, by changing the controls to let you move a character around the world, and have the camera change to match as you move around.
basically making a game like the original Resident Evil with the fixed camera angles?
I know, right? if it works, it'd be very neat.
but I'm just worried I'll spend many hours finding out that it doesn't work, and the camera angles aren't in good positions to make this work
Exactly—the interesting part is that fixed cameras can author information. Each angle decides what the player sees, what stays off-screen and when a familiar room becomes threatening.
I think I can fake it in, like, a godot project: use some off-the-shelf biped instead of the 3dmm actors, and have some code to load the camera angles out of the exported camera chunks from 3DMM + the exported backgrounds
ugh godot might make this hard because of the 3D trickery we'd need to be doing with the background.
I've loaded the backgrounds before (they have a pre-rendered zbuffer, to make them act like they're 3D), but that was in some manual OpenGL
