Dave Meltzer reported that WWE was interested in signing Chris Jericho for a retirement tour, but he ultimately stayed with AEW. He cited the potential for longevity, and said the company is more creatively fulfilling and more fun at this stage of his career.

He also said he definitely wasn't returning this week and that there were no plans for him for the next few months. Anyone who believes a word Meltzer says needs their brains checked for damage

He also noted that he would have more creative input in AEW, than he potentially would have in WWE. There have been no further details on if he has signed a new deal, and if so for how long. (via Wrestling Observer Radio)

I mean. Yeah.

1 I don't think he's done wrestling 2 I can't imagine watching Cena's last run & finding that more attractive than AEW's Sting sendoff 3 Cruise 4 Commentary, coaching, producing & other backstage opportunities seem more plentiful in AEW 5 His wife's politics aren't necessarily his Time will tell!

WWE would have wanted maybe one or two matches before having him fed to Gunther in a retirement match to build towards Gunther vs Lesnar. Can't blame him for thinking he has more to offer than that.

AEW know better than WWE how to work with sunset wrestlers (on the main roster, that is, not as guest spots). Jericho will get more meaningful airtime in his last run at AEW. And I can't imagine he's obliged to go where the biggest offer is. The man shouldn't be short of a bob or two.
