Non-hispanic tradespeople would be happy to build houses for this guy — if he paid them a decent wage. He likes using undocumented immigrant labor because he can skip the niceties like adequate pay and health insurance. This is why we need a decent immigration system.
As societies get richer, wages for workers go up. That makes certain tasks in an economy impossible because the value of that task is lower than the wage needed to get someone to do it.
A good example is servants. Middle class people in the Dominican Republican can afford servants. Not true here.
I'm the US, you can't afford a servant just for laundry like you could elsewhere. So you buck up and do it yourself for free. You also spend a bit of money to get a better washing machine, detergent, etc. The job of "laundry servant" just can't exist in a rich economy.
Housing construction isn't one thing. This temple got built in North NJ by India illegally importing stonemasons to carve all of these sculptures for a couple dollars an hour. We can't build this sort of thing in a rich economy with rich economy wages.
The work in question is building houses.
PERIOD.
If you want to discuss labor inequities you can do that I guess, but it's kind of hijacking my comments, which related to the house building video.
Or I'm just confused as fuck.
Republicans have traditionally favored immigration and simultaneously blocked up dates to the legal immigration system in order to create a source of exploitable workers.
