Dug into something my father-in-law put me on, and a consortium of 11 localities in Southwest Virginia are in negotiations to bring a data center codenamed "Project Goose" to Pulaski County, right behind the Town of Dublin

Codenamed "Project Goose," the Virginia's First Regional Industrial Facility Authority wants to hold a community meeting about a proposed data center

The land the Authority owns is around the Pulaski County Airport, in between the runway and the Town of Dublin. The Authority owns the land, and my father-in-law says there are rumors of a September handover date.

In my Hanover County, data centers have so far been defeated by denied zoning changes, but the situation in Pulaski County is different: They already have a lot of the infrastructure onsite, but seem to be missing at least one thing that would require Supervisors approval

The site already has water supply on site and is already contracted for 1M gallons a day of water and wastewater. That was a big concern in Hanover, but they don't have to get a zoning change for that in Pulaski.

It also has fiber and natural gas already available onsite, which would be very attractive to a data center, given how often they need to run on backup generators.

The one thing it doesn't look like it has, and therefore might still need zoning approval, is the local power transformer (lines are already there though). I have a FOIA request in with the authority for agendas and minutes, so I'll continue to let folks know what I find
