Reminder that none of this would've been possible if not for the neocons manipulating Trump's hatred of Obama to kill the JCPOA. From there, safeguards became unconstrained enrichment and all the scary things they're trotting out became possible. Be careful buying what these guys are still selling.

it’s the same playbook they use for any helpful government program—say it’s useless and doesn’t work, then get into office and make sure it doesn’t work the way it should/could

I’m hearing a lot of reference to “neocons” again all of a sudden. But who is that here? How do some hidden becomes differ from the constant statements of fascination with throwing bombs, and targeting Iran that Trump has always stated? The weird evangelical fascination with Israel’s wars?

Obama took pains to explain, several times, that: 1) he thoroughly consulted with military and nuclear experts 2) The conclusion was that there were no good options to deal with Iran and its nuclear program. 3) Of all the bad options, the nuclear deal was the least bad. Now we have chosen the worst.

Like which of these safeguards could be realistically reconstituted? Any of them? Putting aside the betrayal of the original deal and the sabotage of current negotiations, could Iran even materially offer these things now? So wth are US/IL even able to demand, short of very obvious nonstarters?

Yes most of the key facilities have been set back greatly, but what's a more compelling point if you're in Tehran: · completing the program will be harder / take longer now · the rationale for the bomb has been completely validated and regime survival is at stake

Security by intervention isn't sustainable via bombardment alone, and insufficient against a national bomb program. Just awful outcomes ahead, forced once again by the natsec hawks who never face down the consequences of supremist thinking
