You must picture Sam Altman holding a knife to Tim Berner-Lee's throat. We are in a truly existential level of danger when it comes to the survival of the open web, across every front. This year is when it all comes to a head. www.anildash.com/2026/03/27/e...

But alas, it’s even more complicated. “Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s views are representative of the unreformed cyber-utopian school, & his iterations of a new manifesto continue to be rooted in the failed philosophy of governance that has dominated since the infancy of the commercial internet.”

One small nit - the word you want is hectobillionaire, not centibillionaire. You're multiplying by 100, not dividing.

this also sounds like a measurement of the soil fertilisation that can be achieved by mulching one (1) billionaire and spreading them over a hectare of arable land

Many of the bullet point examples of the "not coordinated conspiracy" reminds me of the incredible PyCon talk from @harihareswara.net -- specifically the story about the water well. Time to get out the swear jar! youtu.be/JE5u5mUT6gQ?...

I really liked this overall. But I am skeptical of technical solutions to societal problems caused by technology. For instance imagine someone making an app with an LLM. Chances are the LLM helps publish to AWS for 800 a month. It’s in the training data, even local models.

Ultimately we are going to need political solutions. That starts with people organizing at a community level. That shits hard. Slacktavism isn’t working.
