Every single part of the entire current digital media landscape was envisioned as part of what was called “blogs” at the start. Tweets, Instagram, reels, sharing your morning run with someone, knowing whether your crush had looked at your story, control over sharing to a community — all of it.

Blogs so didn't suck at scale that they, arguably and defensibly, ate the news environment and publishing. We are still living in the age of the blogger, present company included. To be clear. Your influencer/independent journo/networked politico etc etc -- blogging.

I talked to the head of digital at CNN when he said they “would never have blogs” and took this photo of the first time the word “blog” appeared on their screen a few months later. By the next year, they had a whole blog section of their site. It ate their entire publishing process.
