THR really did a disservice here because the conversation could only add more heat than light with this framing. Were the tools used to cut out images from a background? To interpolate for tweening? It seems like it *wasn’t* used to generate imagery that didn’t exist? And the interviewer didn’t ask.

If she's saying she used AI, it wasn't some basic function like selecting a background for color grading that is used by every film editing program like Davinci etc. It has to be generative otherwise it's a non-issue.

I don’t think that piece actually said *what* it was. If the analogy was made to other platforms where the AI tools are more augmentation/assistive, that’s sort of what I’m getting at — most creative folks don’t object to that. We just don’t know from the article.

Also, to be fair, she did say what it was, by saying it was used to animate still photos. That, to my mind, would be generative. But whatever, everyone sells out these days because it's easier to make money that way.

Fair. But normally if it's an issue, one that needs addressing, just from my experience in the industry, no one asks about the augmentation/assistive stuff. They ONLY ask about generative, job-killing stuff. (not that augmentation/assistive doesn't put people out of work as well necessarily).

If she used it to cut images out from a background? I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a single person in the industry who would agree with you on that. There is not enough information in the story to know.
