Was talking with my sister a while back -a real, actual Christ-like Christian- and so many of the Christians who work with her know that there has to be a change to out people like this but they have no idea how to make it happen other than trying to help where they can.
Her church is extremely progressive & yet they had a very clear cut incident of domestic abuse & there was lots of "don't know both sides" & "Ostracizing him won't fix him" from leadership even after being called out by members bc the couple was queer. Caused a real crisis of faith for my sister.
I (atheist) don't know how to be there for her other than to be a sounding board with a sane and compassion worldview to keep her from being drowned in the nationalist rhetoric that American Christianity has become. I hope I'm at least able to give her that.
I seem to remember Jesus saying guys like this would be better off being cast into the sea with millstones around their necks.
I don't think he's gonna get a favorable reception from Him when his time comes.
He thinks Duck & Cover is praying & that says so much I can't even begin to pick that apart in a cogent manner. I'll put it simply, they love the feeling of power over atheists, so they love putting us in foxholes.
I see he forgot Matthew 18:6, you know, where it's better to tie a millstone around your neck and drown in the sea than to cause a little one to stumble. ๐
