Because most emails become a Task. So even replying to a fun one becomes A Task.

I once apologized PROFUSELY for replying to a text a month after, and my friend said the most magical thing: "When I saw your reply, I didn't even think about the timing. I just thought "Yay! A text from Celeste! I like her!" " I bet your friend also thought "Yay! An email from Katie! I like her!"

There is a professor from undergrad who sent me a congratulatory email after my PhD defense. I wanted to write my reply after my brain felt a little more relaxed. I defended in May 2023. I have not yet replied.

Blame it on time dilation

I decided I was on a roll and also e-mailed a friend I haven't talked to since 2023. (In my defense on that one, though, technically it was his turn to write.)
