Beshear: "These work requirements really aren't getting people back to work. They are about increasing the paperwork on everybody ... when somebody misses that one box, they are kicked off for six months or more."

That's fine, that's not an impediment to getting Medicaid. The impediment is the paperwork involved in showing why you don't have a job. And that's the same impediment whether you are simply unemployed or disabled and unable to work (and most likely unable to do the paperwork).

MAGAGOP's plan to: "increasing the paperwork" IS the very definition of waste, Fraud, & Abuse And it is pure cowardice and Lying in the same foul propagandized breath MAGApoliticians fear electoral backlash for stealing food from children so Lying & fraud is GOP's modus operandi - as always

Safest bet there is: If not enough people fail to fill out the paperwork 'properly'---if they fill it out perfectly---the Trump regime will simply DECLARE that they've failed to fill it out properly. And boot them off their health or nutrition care.

I remember years ago when my youngest was still in the house. I lost my job and had to apply for assistance. Work requirements followed and the only thing they did was not give me enough time to find a permanent job. 4 hours a day sweeping out small office of social services.

In any case A. Due to all the layoffs and firings, where are these jobs exactly? And B. What a strange idea that sick people should be forced to work because that’s what it will come down to. No more sick time even for sick—such a people highly advanced society. What the fuck

That’s exactly what it’s meant to do. Kick as many people off as possible with more red tape that can increase those chances. This has nothing to do with trying to catch a few freeloaders.

The social security officer already messes up paperwork. 60 Minutes did a whole segment on this. Why would the government add more paperwork when currently they can't handle the amount now to process correctly?

If Democrats got on board with the no more work requirements or means-testing train, that would be great. That means universal programs like UBI and M4A and that's the way to go. Just tax those with higher incomes more.

Oh, so if we want to give $1,000 to a poor person every month, we have to give the same to a rich person every month. GOP has used means testing to throw people off benefits, but it doesn’t have to be used that way. Medicaid, fuel assistance, etc. are means tested and help society.

Yeah, because your insistence on an income test will exclude a significant percentage of those you wish to include. Targeting is counterproductive. Universality works better. Here's a good read by someone who used to think like you are.

developmentpathways.co.ukConfessions of a [former] true believer in poverty targeting - Development PathwaysI have a confession to make: I used to be a true believer in poverty targeting. I know, it’s shocking to hear and difficult for me to admit, but we all, at some time, need to come face-to-face with th...

Your “just tax them later” means the government is required to give trillions in interest-free loans to rich people every year. And how about we tax rich people at all? Pass a wealth tax first before you advocate more government payments to the wealthy

We don't have the money for it, they just ginned up the debt for it. But if we taxed the wealthy their fair share we wouldn't have any debt. Everyone seems to forget that Clinton managed to balance the budget. We have a model to follow. It was done with Reagan's tax rates not Eisenhower's.

F'n CNN, NBC, MSNBC, NY Times, WaPo - all commercial media should be starting every last f'n story regarding healthcare with THIS statement: It appears CNN has now gone fully over to the dark side, in what they must assume, a crafty way. There's no 2 sidesisms. STOP normalizing, sanewashing!

They should but they won't for fear of reprisal from this Jackass administration. Even as people are suffering, who are relatives, friends and loved ones of the heads of these news agencies, they refuse to hold Trump accountable.

That’s by design. The ruling class knows that AI and automation are about to make millions of people unemployed, and they don’t want the government to be on the hook to provide their food and healthcare. Watch for cuts to unemployment benefits to be next.

1) This is how stupid everything is. And I do mean stupid. They elect a felon who never worked a day in his life set work requirements, And act like he's a champion of the military. Even though he's been attacking them constantly in previous years, a big one with John McCain, DODGED THE DRAFT, AND

2) they elected a man RICH FROM BIRTH! Even without being an a-hole, that is not a good choice. If you want someone to be empathetic to the everyday person. He's probably NEVER EVEN MADE HIS OWN SANDWICH! What could he possibly do for you. He's not the brightest guy. Hence, The only thing that

why are the republicans hell bent on ruining everyone's lives who pay their salaries&health insurance?why can't they focus on improving our country&the world- a safer, healthier, more satisfying quality of life&respect all human beings-we are all children of God-Jesus is in the face of us all-LOVE

Approach is based off the false premise that employees are in charge of how much or even whether they're working. As most can see, this puts even more power in the hands of employers, whose primary goal is maximum profits.

Or the onerous red tape forces them to give up. Years ago my health plan covered me & my son but didn't cover treatment he needed at the time so they applied for Medicaid for him while he was hospitalized. The process & in person benefits reviews were brutal & I had to fight to keep him covered.

I think dana should go gather more “facts” to help her partner jake “the traitor” tapper write his next book. Not a book about this reich “administration”, but more about the big bad Democrats. We all know where her and the traitors loyalties are. They’re a disgrace

They hate bureaucracy and red tape and regulation, except when it's in their favor. They don't consider bureaucracy a tool to accomplish things, they consider it a weapon to be wielded against their perceived enemies.

We can’t - he’s in his second term. The Republican Party has strangled our legislature through gerrymandering and other means- both senate and rep super majority. No choices in local and state elections most of the time. Andy still handily won re-election on 2023. He’s done the work. 1/

2/ he walks the talk. Beshear is the poster child for “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. I hope he runs for higher office. He’s not perfect, but man, he’s awful close. #teamkentucky

Oh no, Not another common sense, responsible reply to a malicious govt Treasury heist for the rich (and the military) that openly targets the working poor?? Where is the childish playground sound bites, where is the vexatious moral gameplay of the Republicans? I ask you.

Let’s start talking about CORPORATE WELFARE……..the taxpayers are paying for WALMART, AMAZON AND MC DONALDS EMPLOYEE HEALTHCARE…….IT IS MEDICAID……THESE FOLKS HAVE BEEN THROWN OFF MEDICAID……TIME FOR LAWS REQUIRING CORPORATIONS TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE HEALTHCARE……NO MORE CORPORATE WELFARE

The most insane thing is MEDICAID is so you can go to the doctor. Do you know how unenjoyable that is? It’s not like Medicaid recipients are sponging off the system to party 🤡

If it's a MAGAt state forget it.. The ones on Medicaid even if they are 95 are still going to be smarter than any MAGAtard...who they hire at $7.50/hr.. In Arkansas, the first state to have this policy, over 18,000 Medicaid beneficiaries lost coverage in 2018 due to the new requirements. A federal

court halted Arkansas’ policy after 9 months, the regime is continuing to approve similar policies in other states. Failing in all but GA. Most of these policies require enrollees to document that they work or engage in other work activities (e.g., job training or volunteer work) for at least

80 hours per month, unless they prove that they qualify for limited exemptions. The policy required Medicaid beneficiaries to report their work or community engagement activities to maintain coverage. However, a federal court stopped the policy in March 2019, deeming it unlawful.

The case, challenged the Trump administration's approval of Arkansas's Medicaid waiver allowing work requirements. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals later affirmed the lower court's decision, finding the approval to be arbitrary and capricious. There is no reason to believe that it will be any

And in Arkansas, the poor were supposed to report their hours on the Internet but the poor especially rural don’t have Internet and can’t afford the gas to drive to bigger cities and pay for a library card to use the Internet. It is just a fuck you to the struggling.

Anyone who has ever had to do anything with the federal government, including filing taxes, knows it's hard to navigate for a reason. Making the case that the paperwork is meant to be yet another hurdle is a good case to make.

Federal paperwork has become a barrier. I experienced this with trying to obtain FEMA assistance as a flood victim, so gave up trying. My receipts for obvious needs (hotel, mud cleanup, moving the few things I had left out of harm’s way, replacement of essential belongings) were all denied.

Every time I dealt with FEMA, I was told of some new paperwork I was supposed to submit I didn’t know I needed. Newest thing was the Declarations page for my 24-25 flood insurance, which I cannot find since being displaced. Staff could not access NFIP computer (under FEMA) to see my policy history.

100% agree. "Means testing", contingencies, benchmarks, "work requirements." They're are all about withholding benefits. They've done studies. Just like private health insurance. It's about making services INACCESSIBLE. They know this.

Half of everyone on assistance has a job or a full time job… or is on disability or duals… let’s talk about why working people can’t afford to live… while corporation brag about record profits.. and not paying taxes.. let’s talk about that..

We could all have universal, single payer healthcare in this country instead of….Medicaid, Medicare, Indian Health Services, Tricare, city, state and federal healthcare insurance, employer insurance and private for profit insurance and absolutely no insurance. If only…..

I don't watch CNN anymore because of this bullshit. She poses the question from a republican talking point. Do your homework Dana! Look at what happened in Arkansas when they tried this. Why would the same policy, on a national scale have a different outcome?

If you thought this was going to help in the midterms, you might think again. The Medicaid cuts do not go into affect until after the midterms. Pretty clever. So they won’t feel the pain until later.

compassionate societies provide health care to all people simply because they genuinely care about everyone's health; prosperous societies that are smart provide health care to everyone because healthy people are happier and more productive; greedy societies care only about profit margins;

The only way for these cost savings to be achieved is for people who currently use Medicaid to see the doctor/get emergency care at a hospital/supplement nursing home costs is to no longer have the cost paid for by Medicaid so either they pay themselves or go without
