Cool. Did you know that the creator of Below the Root on Apple II went on to make an Alice in Wonderland game in the same engine, then years later ported it to the CD-i with neat art, as well as making another game in the same engine, Laser Lords, an adventure game set in space? You can just play it

personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not

I looked into it and there's like a lot of old games. I'll get back to you with numbers later. If they start making games bad, I can play all of the old ones. Those are still good.

I shit you not, every single day I read about retro video games and discover the names of 5 more video games I've never heard of that the mere description threatens to rip my fucking face off. I'm set for life. If the AAA industry wants to burn to the ground, I couldn't possibly give less of a shit.

I could play a new game every day for the rest of my life and still never play anything made prior to 2016 if I felt like it. There's simply a large amount of video games that exist. I also like pokemon romhacks, I could probably play a new one of those everyday and never run out. It would be easy

I've found so many games through my retro play that I wouldn't have even thought to touch and have thoroughly enjoyed. Meanwhile, cost alone was already pushing me out of the current gaming sphere, so I made my peace there.

The argument you're replying to is basically the same as the old NFT argument of "You're not allowed to care about us stealing IP because the NFT is already out there. It already happened and you can't stop it". It's not trying to convince you, it's just a weak attempt to absolve themselves.

Aw man, losing out on AAA studios? But I love paying $100 for day1 patched games that only work with an internet connection even as a singleplayer game, where 99% of the reason it feels good is the graphics, and not any of the heart and soul of a game with content...

I could become a full time streamer, only play games that I actively want to play, and only play the subset of those that I own or are currently emulateable, and I would not survive long enough to play them all, even if I was the world's healthiest guy.
