In this photograph, PM Mark Carney is touring the Government Operations Centre - the nerve centre that leads the “integrated federal response to all-hazard events of a national interest.” The workforce there has been cut in half thanks to Carney’s public service cuts, from 100 to just 50 workers. 🧵

A provincial/territorial government has to formally request federal assistance for emergency management/firefighting. That doesn’t address staffing but the process is laid out under Public Safety Canada.

GoC was also the central hub for surveillance of activities during Idle No More. Fires and civil response need to be separated from police and public safety, otherwise u r actually just funding police that track fires here and there.

Mark Carney never made a speech about the wildfires (yet) His PR team posted on Facebook that they were deploying and mobilizing on the day of the soccer game. But today we got news they were mobilizing today and it sounds like they just started?

It was truly disgusting to even consider it, while a FN community burned down and they FLED by boat, as the government abandoned them. Wab Kinew should have been more thoughtful about his words as Canada is on fire, this is a reflection of the NDP. The pipeline should be denounced.

In other words, to advance major projects “in the national interest” (like pipelines and military hardware), the PM has slashed the number of public sector workers who coordinate the response to emergencies “of a national interest”.

The 48 hours his government took to respond to Wab Kinew's request for military help with Manitoba flooding is just unacceptable. To me, it's akin to Trump ignoring blue states called for FEMA aid simply because they have different politics. The pressure for MB to allow pipelines is sickening.

You folks need to hire a team of Gen z people to manage social media, make videos, memes and PR. You can have the best message with the best intentions, but it doesnt matter if most people dont hear it. Use Mamdani for inspiration. Ppl are craving left wing policies.

Totally agree. I should be inundated with this content and I almost never see it. And if I didn’t see Avi’s posts I would know nothing about him. Let’s gooooo! There is such an appetite for it right now.

I follow, Im on board and I barely hear anything from the NDP. Politics needs to embrace younger generations. Doing things the same way they've always been done isnt going to save us.
