I keep seeing people talking about Cursor and how amazing it is. I tried it out on a SvelteKit app and most of the code it generates is completely wrong and not helpful. Is this a free trial issue and paid models are better? Any suggestions? It is using claude3.5-sonnet

Yeah I’m so far enjoying it more than React which is what I was most familiar with before. Lot of the same concepts, but syntactically a lot simpler to read for me. Also using this time to finally learn Tailwind which is interesting.

Try Cline/Roocode or aider. All let you use your own api key and don't throttle or reduce context size. I found they outperform answer quality on anything that tries to charge monthly. I can run up a bill larger than their monthly in an hour. There's no way to make that work at the price charged

Give it context, add the Svelte docs to cursor (Ctrl+shit+j) then it should do better It will still use its base knowledge and be biased towards it so tell it to use context from the docs and the @web

I use Windsurf and I'm really satisfied with it, but you need to learn how to use it. You can't expect full, complete and error free code. Settings project/features context and step by step changes is important

This. So many times, I have been like " how the hell these people are prompting that they don't have to write any code"

I watched this comparison video recently and what I found funny was the presenter at the end says he personally just uses VS Code with ChatGPT in a browser 😅

Nah that's just click bait or they don't know anything about that language (that's me with css and html) 🤣 It can help you prototype really fast but you still need to guide it.

In Cursor, you might have to explicitly keep feeding it with instructions to use Svelte 5 and feed in the documentation(s). Maybe also write up Don‘ts in a cursorrules file? That said, unsuprised. I think the people who get the most bang out of these tools use big, established React frameworks and

-Libraries. With an LLM tool, you‘re somewhat locked into the mainstream. Making them behave outside of that is just going to be increasingly difficult by din of the core technology.
