Working on tomorrow's #ORGTOBER and I'm playing with a digital oil brushset. The theme for day 16 (yeh, yeh, I'm like a week behind) is "Ship" Starting with The Wrath Of The Seas by Ivan Aivazovsky

Then I'm making it redder and more contrasty, and starting to stamp brush clone away the people in the boat.

Now I'm adding a dude in a suit. There will be loads of these, but this is a proof of concept for the idea first. It's not perfect, but the Romantics were all about mood and big strokes rather than perfection. (I'm a big Turner fan, to whom Aivazovsky is often compared)

Now I'm experimenting with type and styles. I'm certain I'll end up with a serif, but a sans looks okay, admittedly. This is Sturkopf Grotesk, a geometric poster face, which I think works well.

In the end I landed on Rufina, a bodoni form. Styles that became popular in the late eighteenth century. Painting is from late nineteenth century. Ah well, shoot me. Typeface is by Martin Sommaruga who mostly posts about pizza on Insta. I want some pizza now. (www.instagram.com/martinsommar...)

Nearly done... Instead of the form of the ORGTOBER DAY EIGHTEEN I've been using, I'm "painting" one to fit the style. I like that signatures on these sorts of paintings are often a bit incongruously ugly and slapdash, so I went for that too.

Final job tomorrow is painting in the rest of the people!
