I have been playing loads of WoW: Forever Beta lately and it is fascinating to me how much I enjoy mining and fishing. Its mechanic is just clicking a single button over and over. It's the most boring and trivial minigame and yet, I could do it for hours. Because I am doing it inside Azeroth.

This makes me think what makes mining games so addicting to me... it's not the mining itself... or the complexity of the system. It's the immersion while doing it and knowing "these materials will be useful for further processing"

It’s so good. There’s really something in removing convenience and slowing things down. Maybe it’s just beta community, but I’ve never talked with people this much while running from A to B nor felt such a feel of adventure when finding folks for a dungeon.
