Finally got around to renting some co-hosting space. Did some small edits to the original manuscript. Shout out to Sharon Barrow in a Houston Facebook boardgaming group for doing some extra proofreading. It's still so much longer that I ever meant it to be.

In my essay, I deliberately said at one point "Tabletop RPGs have their own problems that are beyond the scope of this essay." I have no idea how people even manage to get into TTRPGs in the first place. At what point did we decide to just sit down and decipher that entire tome of details?

In my experience it's just been a tradition that experienced people teach the new people in their group. It's a mixed bag IMO. On one hand you get a kind of "passed down lore" that adds a whole hell of a lot to the vibe. On the other hand some people are bad teachers, or are hard to find.

That’s fascinating. FWIW, AuDHD as well. I also have a lot of issues with rulebooks - & used to be a technical writer. But f/ reasons I can’t explain, the COIN rulebooks made 100% sense to me. They are written in a hierarchal format that my brain just clicked w/.

As a tech monkey who was raised by rabid tech writers, you are bang on. It hurts to read the many "bad" rule books out there. Good, organized writing isn't that hard. Just a little effort goes a very long way.
