Jon Ossoff: "I don't think anything illustrates the times more aptly than that the draft-dodging crook president, who has plunged our nation recklessly into a war he knows not how to end or to win, tried to imprison this man who embodies American heroism."

But the war with Iran has been going since 1979, and was started by Iran, not Trump in 2026. I think the West’s inability to win any wars is a pretty bit issue that everyone’s ignoring in favour of tribalism.

In the dim, distant past, 1953, the US overthrew an elected Iranian government and installed a Shah. Iranians rebelled and took their country's government back in 1978. The US started this war, allowed it to sputter along for years, made peace of a sort under Obama, and Mango threw it away.

In 1953 the Iranian government was nationalizing US property. An act of war against the US. Just like again in 1979. The reality is that the West is just very bad at foreign policy. I don't think the US can be said to have ever started ANY wars LOL.

It wasn't US property, though, it was that of some privately (or publicly)-owned US or UK oil company or other. Starting a war or overthrowing a foreign government to benefit only the shareholders of some random corporation has never been GOOD foreign policy, but has ALWAYS been US foreign policy.

Nationalizing the property of foreign citizens is what started the war. I would argue that overthrowing authoritarian governments that violate the rights of your citizens is ALWAYS good foreign policy, but has NEVER been the US foreign policy as we can see from every war we choose to lose.

That's a hell of an argument. Go ahead, make it. Nationalizing a resource or asset within that country's boundaries, land, oil, water, whatever, for the benefit of that country's citizens rather than an exploitative foreign corporation would seem to be excellent policy.
