The quote is advice for children. It’s not telling adults to look for helpers. It’s telling adults to be helpers

Someone used that quote in response to a post I made about fascists lighting houses on fire in Belfast. Wouldn’t need to look for helpers there if we didn’t let loyalists burn houses down to begin with

It reminds me of the line. “You’re not in traffic. You are the traffic” Too many people view themselves as observers to a problem. And not a part of why there is a problem in the first place.

The more pernicious version of this shows itself in conservative fear culture. "I have to have a gun because there's so much violence done by people with guns." "I need to hoard toilet paper because people are going to buy it all."
