I’m getting tired of that Mr Roger’s “look for the helpers” quote. I am one of the helpers, and I’m telling you that there are not enough of us

The quote is advice for children. It’s not telling adults to look for helpers. It’s telling adults to be helpers

Someone used that quote in response to a post I made about fascists lighting houses on fire in Belfast. Wouldn’t need to look for helpers there if we didn’t let loyalists burn houses down to begin with

Yeah, we are taught to be consumers of the world, and it takes some amount of reprogramming to actually see ourselves as active participants

Well, maybe “we” is overly broad. I do think certain people (cishet white men) are taught to be active participants at everyone else’s expense

Are they though? Do they consider their part in the system or only how everyone else affects them? Most men I know do not believe their behavior has any effect on anyone else. Everything that happens to other people is their own fault.
