I'm glad to have made my little personal CAD program experiment, but at this point I think I just don't even need an interface at all here's my sketch, here's what opus spat out printed it as-is; there's one dimension wrong it couldn't have known about, but otherwise everything works perfect

Had a recent pleasant experience with 3D printing + Opus as well.

Opus 5.5 did a great job designing a cup holder for an IKEA bed. I have been postponing designing it for a few months now, and last night just went “hell with it, let opus 5.5 try it” I provided drawing with dimensions and some design direction. Extremely happy. AI can do great things! #3dprint

I got some isometric graph paper recently to try and do more accurate drawings for this exact kind of thing; your results look pretty good! I would have felt the need to specify all the dimensions in the drawing, you find that unnecessary?

there were a few numbers I did measure and specify in the text prompt for a specific clearance (which is why those mounting holes are so far over), but overall nothing else I guess knowing the pen diameter starts to work backwards through defining the other widths and general scale

yeah, I think a lot of CAD (as a human) is really just working through the tools, which also works through the thinking and deciding of what things "should" be and some things ask you to pick an arbitrary value, some things get you to measure some IRL part, many don't matter at all

with even one hair of automation it's conceivable that I could sketch things on the shop floor, snap a pic and talk a bit and hit send -- then it'd design, model, add it to print queue and be ready by the time I go back over and remember to check on it
