This study needs to be shouted from the mountaintops.

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

Friend, that's 1 trillion less in the pockets of the American healthcare barons. How ungrateful! Those barons were the ones paying people to birth you, heal you when you were sick... Why do you want to take a trillion dollars from them? Why do you hate the people that just want a third yaght?

Unfortunately the summary conflates “universal health care” with “single payer.” Also the bulk of savings comes from lower pharma and doctor costs. Congress could adopt cost controls without the massive individual-level tax increases single payer would require.

Not exactly. "Healthcare costs have been rising faster than inflation, and a staggering share of that spending is consumed by administrative middlemen, soaring drug prices, and emergency care for conditions that should have been treated earlier and for less."

Drug prices were what I mentioned in my first post. The others don't require single payer to address either. The issue of making care accessible is distinct from whether payment for care should be made by insurance or government. 1/2

Admin costs are a much smaller issue. A lot of those result from insurance company shenanigans that can be regulated away. (Which is politically hard, but easier than doing away with insurers.) Expanded ACA subsidies, rural care funding, and public option/cost controls get us to UHC. 2/2
