I just make shit that's fun and makes me laugh and see where it goes. I'll probably work retail until I drop but I'll still make cartoons so it could be worse

honestly the entire creative industry umbrella feels like this. when i sold my series to universal everyone assumed i got rich off it and it's like lol no i just made enough to pay medical bills and get a VERY used car, both of which were great but i wasn't suddenly sitting on a pile of cash

that's wild to me and really changes my perspective. so many of us have the mental model that creators are doing well the way, for example, the cast of friends is, and that simply isn't true anymore. thank you for your gift of creativity and i support your struggle for fair compensation

Yeah and this is kind of my dilemma since I really do wanna make animations but either I do everything myself and take a while or save up just to pay people well. I love to do it but yeah.

This part I understand completely, this whole post in general is an encapsulation of the way my brain pits "Goals"+"Procedures" like I can dream, and say "this and that would be great to happen" Putting the work in, and understanding how hard that work can be to achieve those dreams is the point.

Such true words! This is why i strive to get a job that can help me put money aside to pay my projects from my own pocket. With luck, we get return from them, of course. But I don't want all that to stop me from being creative and turn my ideas into projects i can share.

The real win is doing it for the love of making things and I think that's what life is about tbh Like yeah we do need money to have things but when we as humans make something - often times it outlives us, and that in of itself is amazing

So if voice acting doesn't pay out too much, and writing doesn't pay out too much, how are you supposed to make ends meet? Or do you just die? Why did I have to choose those two things as the careers I wanted to pursue? Passion and enthusiasm don't pay bills. This degree is going to help, I'm sure.

It's unfortunate that the quality of this type of material competes with mainstream entertainment but can't be compensated the same way. I hope that can be remedied with time. Despite this, I still hold great passion for indie projects and they are the sole reason I want to pursue work in them.
