Two reasons (or both) : - Trump will be neutered after the midterms (very likely Dem house and senate majority) - Russia is in pain economically and making no progress militarily. Both explain maximum application of leverage he has on Trump.

Exactly my points! Putin is a desperate little man grabbing for straws, and we’ll see a lot more. This weekend’s pogroms in France and Italy were just the beginning as Putin pulls every string. I’ll post a video of Russian speaking dudes busting into residences in Paris here

Trump calls Ukraine's refinery strikes a problem, yet he says nothing about Russia hitting the grid, and that silence is the giveaway. Those refineries fund the drones over Kharkiv, so the economic squeeze is doing real work, not just scoring points. Sanctions on paper leak. Burning terminals don't.
