IMO the video policy won’t help with much more than the most blatant slop. Producing a track A style talk that is convincing (yet wrong) with AI assistance is super easy. Given how many results have used AI (symbolic/neural) and formalization, it is disappointing to see no artefact review system.

Indeed, if the (or a) purpose of videos is to help ensure that authors understand their own papers, I don't think a video will cut it. You can have AI produce slides/board notes and a script. Or board notes + outline, so you're not reading from a script & it looks like a more natural chalk talk.

People can also choose what to include or not include in their video, mentioning or highlighting only the parts of their paper that they truly understand, while leaving the un-understood AI-generated parts un-mentioned in the video.

(We tried video submissions in my undergrad, online synchronous Theory of Computing class last year and guess what happened some fraction of the time. Not all the time, but some fraction of the time. This year we're doing live interview quizzes and it is so much better, in more ways than one.)

Is that a suggestion, or a statement? The CfP is out, and I don't think there'll be any major policy change from now on (at least not unless something critical requires it).

These policies aren't perfect, and are an attempt at preserving the values and goals of the conf in these slightly chaotic times. We'll see how things turn out, but hope that the steps taken will allow STOC to preserve its function as a place for dissemination and discussion of new exciting results!

Uh, I hope details of the video submission will be posted *soon*. Even though it says no elaborate prep is required, chalk talk okay, etc., authors will still want to do a good job of this. Some of us are very busy so would want to do it sooner rather than later...
