Ah to live in Cambridge is to be awakened in a panic when an announcement-making truck going by reminds you it is Street Cleaning and you have parked on the wrong side of the street. I see most of my neighbors forgot, too…😅

And somehow I missed that I’d gotten the city’s text alert yesterday, too, and so did corwin, so we’re both having to move our cars now.

We just started a "pilot program" where they tried only ticketing and not towing, and there were too many instances of people (like academics) leaving their car on the street unmoved for 3 months in the summer and just paying the fine. So now they're doubling the fine and seeing if that works.

In Chicago the alert system is signs posted a day or two ahead of time. Or the sound of a street cleaner going by, if you don't leave the house. (Street cleaner noises panic-woke me for at least a year after I moved away.)

Jersey City has permanent signs, and then this adorable little harbinger meter cop one-person vehicle drives about a block in front of the sweeper leaning on the horn all the way. Since it's a traffic meter cop anyway, they just jump out and write the ticket before the sweeper gets there.
