Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by the booth or came to the writing workshop "Tongue in Cheek: Creating Romantasy That Makes Us Laugh Out Loud" with fellow author Tiffany Hunt - we had so much fun.

And thank you all for buying books, bringing me things to sign, making fanart, and signing up for the newsletter. As an author, getting to interact with fans face-to-face is always so validating and such a joy. Stay tuned for more videos about the fantastical evening events!

I'm at the incredibly depressing Orlando airport, where all the places restaurants can be are covered in drywall promising the amazing restaurants that will be here but currently aren't. I have bought a sad Cibo Express sandwich.

Meanwhile dude next to me freaked out when the plane backed up. Freaked out at the world's tiniest turbulence. Made a phone call literally when our wheels hit ground, while we were still decelerating. Had his seat belt off two seconds later as we were just starting taxiing.

Dude behind me monologued the entire way up the coast. His wife occasionally punctuated with monosyllables. I have heard about their timeshare, the changes in timeshare policy, the importance of booking strategically. About mining and have everything comes from the earth...

Meanwhile, I'm sorting through photos from the utterly delightful Romantasy BookCon. However, we were not the only folks at the hotel. One of my favorite con tropes is Very Different Cons at the same hotel.

Meanwhile, the water refill station water is distressingly tepid. And there is woefully insufficient insulation between the emergency exit that's the only place I could find a seat and the jet engines outside. I fear I may be in the boring Hell.

So I convinced myself to eat instant oatmeal in my room rather than overpriced hotel buffet by promising myself a pastry when I got to the airport. The only one I can find is a prepackaged muffin that looks lime 660 calories of disappointment.

Destiny's having medical issues too personal for me to blast to the internet (which means maybe shouldn't be discussed in an airport) so the speaker has bought some of Destiny's skin care products to help her out

Out of stock of my books at the booth at Romantasy BookCon, but the onsite bookshop still has copies! (I still have magnets and anthologies for sale, and stickers and bookplates for free!)

Ready for day 2 of Romantasy BookCon. Uh... this is all of the stock I have? There's no more in the back? It's going better than planned and now I'm panicking I didn't bring enough. Whoops!

I have used my Square reader for exactly one event. Now, the night before I head to the next event, it refuses to charge. No lights. I've tried multiple plugs, multiple outlets, holding the little button for minutes at a time. Crap!

SMUGGLE YOUR MATERIALS TO THE ARCHIVIST

Frank Cifaldi@frankcifaldi.bsky.social

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

Who's ready for Romantasy BookCon next weekend? I'm heading to Orlando and I can't wait to see everyone! (And dance the night(s) away - I have spent way too much time figuring out my makeup and costumes.)

I genuinely love travel, but the lead up to the travel always makes my anxiety disorder flare up. It's not debilitating and it doesn't stop me from doing stuff (and I'm pretty good at managing it overall) but... urgh. Packing makes me borderline manic. (Yes, I have lists and meds. Just unpleasant.)

BIG NEWS: WE'RE DOING A PODCAST!! Hosted by ME. Which means I get to talk to people about books even more than I already do! The first episode is about SWORD LESBIANS & LADY KNIGHTS and it's with Alix E Harrow, CL Clark, and Tasha Suri and it's SO GOOD!! I can't wait for you all to hear it!

Reactor Magazine@reactorsff.bsky.social

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our first podcast, Read Receipts, a weekly show about speculative fiction, genre, and nerd culture.

A random, vaguely gross thought - does the popularity of pimple-popping videos incentivize people, especially in developing countries, to deliberately cultivate breakouts to make a satisfying video? (Yes, I'm guessing the answer is yes, because people.)

In "continued enshittification of everything" - our first Farberwear pot lasted for more than 15 years. Finally replaced it with the exact same model 3-4 years ago because the base of the handle was beginning to break down.

Well this morning I heard a pop and suddenly smelled burning plastic. Damn thing is cracked and smoking. After making 100% the tiny fire was out, I threw it out. Didn't even make it five years.
