I’ve been in Minneapolis the last few days reporting on the ICE raids happening across the city. This morning federal agents shot and killed a man, identified by the AP as Alex Pretti. This marks the third shooting by federal agents since Operation Metro Surge started in Minnesota last month.

The loss of this great American is beyond HEARTBREAKING! There was no good reason for this to happen. NONE. Fight for humanity & ACCOUNTABILITY. Passionate peaceful protests matter. Don’t look away. This is intolerable! Support Democracy Forward, ACLU, 5calls, 50501, Indivisible, MoveOn. NO APATHY

I'm disgusted this conduct is sanitised by being given a name: "Operation Metro Surge" As if this makes everything they do official and acceptable.

Residents I’ve spoken to are furious and want the agents out of their city. I’ve seen tense encounters in grocery story parking lots, housing developments, and neighborhoods. I've covered unrest around the world and the anger among protesters here is among the most intense I've ever experienced.

Earlier this week I watched as agents attempted to detain 3 construction workers on the roof of an unfinished house in sub-freezing weather. Other members of the men’s crew yelled and cursed at the agents for over an hour until they finally left.

I was gassed by agents yesterday after they threw canisters out of their car in a residential neighborhood. I crouched behind a snowbank, coughing chemicals up.

Today’s shooting sparked a massive protest, with hundreds of residents pouring out into the streets and surrounding the site of the killing. Protesters shouted at federal and local law enforcement, demanding justice for their dead neighbor.

Understandable. Especially as some coverage by major media continues to give the feds an unnecessary amount of wiggle room. Ex., NBC today describing Pretti as "seemingly pepper sprayed" as we watch video of an agent repeatedly spray the victim's head.
