I’m depressed that so many people here don’t seem to understand the point of this “strongly worded letter.” OF COURSE Trump/Republicans won’t budge on most of this stuff. Schumer/Jeffries know that. This is no longer about avoiding a shutdown but about making sure the public knows who to blame.

It’s time for Trump to address the Republican healthcare crisis. And avoid a painful government shutdown.

The people outside of Congress who will actually read that letter already know who's to blame ~ Republicans of course, and a disturbingly large number of complacent Democrats. They're paying for horrible advice from consulting groups like Third Way, instead of just talking to their constituents.

I always tell people that complain about ‘letters’ to read the thread below 👇 and the 2nd post talks about the letters. If anyone bothered to read them, they would see that detailed questions are asked in most of them for investigation purposes, a few examples 👇. bsky.app/profile/maud...

You might share my impression that some of these vital concepts about how politics work in a democracy aren't part of the standard curriculum, and aren't even part of a college degree unless one happens to study at least some political science. This is an educational defect that ought be fixed.

Obviously the secret to political power is no fundraising, no campaigning, no endorsements especially from the DNC (unless it’s David Hogg), no letters, no social media, no voting, no talking, no meetings They have to just “do something” somehow

And by all means, NO paying attention to the wins throughout the nation. DNC sent thousands of volunteers and money. People are winning state and local elections, paving the way for Congressional wins. But that's not glitzy, so it's meaningless. Not sure what IS glitzy, but Dems aren't it.

Almost all these people have no problem with how Trump does things, they just believe they can get someone to do the same for them. Ignoring that actually involves just following Trump and always stepping in line and not complaining.

The only word Democrats can say is "healthcare". It's just frustrating they have no spine for anything other than one issue of Obamacare subsidies. They'll give this issue up and what will they run on in 2026?

I was referencing the letter from Jeffries. It's about one issue. This tells me the Democrats have taken every other issue off the table in the budget negotiations. For example, nothing about ICE or USAID or tariffs. No demand to make profiling Hispanics illegal. Nothing.

No, what it says is that you don't understand how Congress works and didn't read the proposal. Everything you've mentioned is either not a power of Congress or is addressed. Until Dems are in the majority they can only do what Republicans allow them to. You can thank voters for that.

Republicans getting the blame isn't guaranteed. Especially with the current media environment. That's why it's a potential lose-lose situation.

Exactly right. It's critical to have this stuff in writing and increase the public's awareness of it all, especially when the public is the one making the big decisions for our future, right or wrong. We see what happens over and over when the public has bad or not enough info.
