An area of California desert was recently lit up at night, baffling locals. Turns out it was the latest step in a US startup's bid to put 50,000 satellites in space to reflect sunlight back to Earth at nighttime via giant mirrors. This quest has many critics. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

As much as I support them doing this, this is going to get Westfalled and the US government will instead be the one facing the lawsuit. Basically as long as Blanche is willing to certify, and they were federal employees, they're completely immune from personal harm.

A few inconvenient facts that does not play well on the internet 1) felons CAN run for President, (we designed the system this way because of England fuckery). In fact the only things that can prevent an otherwise eligible person from running are the exact things that Republicans blocked.

2) art 3 of the 14th amendment There's a longstanding legal argument that the 14th amendment never would apply to the office of the President because of where it originated from. Plus the only people who have ever been disqualified had pled guilty to or were convicted of sedition in court.

IF you convicted him of sedition? Sure. Go for it. Maybe the Supreme Court doesn't throw it out because it doesn't specifically mention the President, but I doubt it. Plus to get a conviction of sedition you need to prove what he was doing in the situation room on Jan 6th, which means an eyewitness.

Let's run through those, shall we? 1) treason. Well, to convict someone of treason under the Constitution, you need at least 2 eyewitness account to testify that they saw the person commit the treasonous act or a confession by the person in court. Who was in the Situation room with Trump?

.254? That's not drunk. That's pickled. Unless you had developed a very high tolerance for alcohol, you would barely be able to operate your lungs, let alone a vehicle. This isn't a case of first time drinking and driving. This is just first time getting caught.

"A preliminary breath test displayed a .254 blood alcohol content, three times the .08 legal limit for driving, and a test taken at the jail displayed a .192 level, the affidavit says. She later pleaded guilty to a count of child endangerment..." www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Part of the reason the php vulnerability existed for so long unknown is because we as humans have biases. We would never check for such an obvious flaw because we are biased to believe that somewhere there would've been a guardrail to prevent against such a stupid thing. AI has no such bias.

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

Marines only care about if you earned the title Marine, you can do your job, and if you'll honor our core values. To paraphrase an old gunny of mine from back in the DADT days: "I don't care who you fuck off duty, as long as when you're on duty you fuck up the enemy."

the navy isn't as much of a surprise but i was not expecting we'd get the United States Marines in the national divorce

This is the unfortunate consequence of people demanding the military not "draft" dogs into war, and ultimately, retire them. Fortunately this will never come to fruition, because like everything else the Trump administration supports, this is just all a giant fraud.

The millennial's push to "disrupt" the hotel industry by embracing AirBNBs (which now is a large reason why they can't buy homes, because the second a starter home goes on the market it gets bought with cash above asking to be an STR) may be one of the biggest self owns in modern history.

Airbnb went from a cheap way to crash in a spare bedroom or rent a vacation house for a weekend and turned into "what if hotels openly hated you and acted like they were doing you a favor by letting you give them hundreds of dollars to stay there, and also it's more expensive"

This part. Tariffs themselves aren't inherently good or bad. They have a purpose, but they should be 1) limited in scope 2) planned around correcting the imbalance (a tariff on semiconductors while we build our factories) 3) approved by Congress And NOT the moronic whims of a madman

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: Clearly these tariffs have hurt American manufacturers. Clearly they have hurt the American worker, they have hurt our pocketbooks. We're paying for this. We need to use tariffs around how we can protect certain automotive opportunities, rather than this haphazard approach

My opponent was the lead author of a bill that would have banned abortion in Minnesota, even in cases of rape and incest, and punished doctors with prison time. As Governor, I will always protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.

The way the so called "left" dogpiled Magdi, gaslit her, and then used ableist slurs to beat her down only for her suspicions to be proven right is nothing short of shameful.

The Internet is a fascinating place where everyone blames their own nihilistic depression and lack of fun hobbies on everyone else

We really need to start to accept that a LOT of these supposed "activists" are former 50 view/show podcasters who got rich because of Trump 1, and then their popularity plummeted when Biden took over and they're desperately trying to recapture that feeling.

Cloud's Strife@jmgreene28.bsky.social

"There's zero difference between Pete Buttigieg and Donald Trump" is one of those takes that sounds knowledgeable and spicy but it's actually just stupid.

More wild how we had the opportunity to not only do that once, but TWICE - and both times voters decided it wasn't worth voting for. What if policy doesn't matter in US elections, but what a President can declare a national emergency does?

And this is the part that gets me: If you campaign on taxing the rich, the rich WILL suppress your campaign. They will hire influencers to lie about you and your record. They will threaten the media with losing access to their resources if they cover you. They won't just take it lying down.

So why are we surprised when the DAY after Harris put that announcement out, the editorial boards stopped writing favorably about her? That her rally coverage basically became YouTube only within a week? Why are we shocked that the Teamsters didn't endorse anyone? That "the vibe" shifted?

The annoying part of this is that this is EXACTLY what Biden got excoriated by the supposed left for telling rich people: you could pay more in taxes, and nothing in your lives would fundamentally change. And he did, in the most effective way possible: hiring more IRS agents to audit their returns.

Harris ran on a LITERAL wealth tax. 400M or more in net worth, you pay a 25% tax on all assets, unrealized or not. What happened? Immediate. Backlash. The media stopped covering her rallies, the wealthy started throwing dark money at Trump, Musk/Zuck basically blacklisted any pro Dem account.

This isn't 100% true. This device makes you FEEL like your skin is burning if you enter the area, and it subsides when you leave. It does this because the frequency of energy used tricks your body's nervous system into thinking its burning. It's not a "heat ray", like this is claiming.

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Trump's Department of War has reportedly authorized the DHS to test using a heat ray that burns human skin at the southern border.

Now, I ran out of characters, so let me caveat: 1) this is wrong, it's an irresponsible and lazy method of border enforcement 2)even if 1 wasn't true, the people using this can not be trusted to do it in a manner which doesn't have undue consequences 3) it could be considered an act of war.

Re: 3 This is a microwave anti personnel device, and it has a range of a few hundred yards in a wide arc. The "border" is a finite line. Put these on the border line, you're taking land from Mexico. Put these so the cone of influence ends at the border, you're taking land from Americans.

This is "we didn't hire a PR team so we just asked the guy from HR who just tendered their resignation to write a press release for us" levels of bad.

This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

Cynicism is the refuge of cowards. It's easy. Too many people see failing as a character flaw, which means that they'll never have a rich and meaningful life. They'll always be cowards. They'll always walk in others footsteps. And they'll die as they lived.

TMW you realize that soon the OWL is going to have a "AI" section in their APA citations guide. (If you don't know what the OWL is, it's Perdue University's Online Writing Guide, and it's an amazing resource for professional writers.)

Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg

The cost of everything from groceries and gas to housing and childcare is going up because of choices made by Donald Trump's administration. Those choices have consequences. So do elections. The midterms are our chance to elect leaders who will fight for the people.
