Here’s the interesting thing. Trumps ā€œlocker room talkā€ was excused and straight up described sexual assault. Platner, what I’ve seen so far, is a marine joking with dark military humor…. Why is locker room talk ok but not military humor?

Tens of millions of us didn't "excuse" Trump's "locker room talk." As for Platner, blaming rape victims for their assaults, accusing Black people of being cheap & getting a Nazi tattoo & then lying about knowing its significance for 18 years isn't "dark military humor."

Obviously Platner making those comments isn’t nearly as bad as actually *committing* sexual assault/etc like Trump did, but it sure as hell shouldn’t be shrugged off either. And he wasn’t just a ā€œdumb kidā€ either. He was making some of the offensive comments less than 5 yrs ago, in his late 30s.

In fact, he appeared on and *praised* an open antisemite’s podcast just 2 months ago & used the ā€œRā€ word as a slur just last month…while trying to defend the Nazi tattoo in a public interview.

I appreciate the willingness to call out- rather than use - bad behavior. One question is whether DT voters will vote for Platner. The second is how did we get here? The most important, How do we get out of here? Excuses do not help us.

like how can anything platner has done outdo Trump or GOP? Why Dems have to have purity tests ? they only hurt themselves with that. I don’t think any Trump voters will give a rats ass about how pure Platner is and Dems shouldn’t either. Its about winning.

Then what do you win? At the end of the day, who is representing you? Chasing Trump voters is a fool’s errand. Even if you get them, you owe them.

It's not a binary, "We should be just as bad as Trump" *OR* at the other end, "Candidates should be 100% pure and have no flaws". This is a complicated race. The whole Platner "debate" misses any nuance, and therefore is mostly dumb noise.
