Here’s the interesting thing. Trumps “locker room talk” was excused and straight up described sexual assault. Platner, what I’ve seen so far, is a marine joking with dark military humor…. Why is locker room talk ok but not military humor?

Thank you. He is an empty man like Trump. Just mouthing what people want to hear. Bernie Sanders has broken my heart in endorsing him. Blackwater. Racism. Anti-semitism. Rapist protectionism. Homophobia. I am stunned by my home state.

What the hell? You think we're OK with Trump but not Platner? Who do you think you're talking to? I have a son with autism. I'm not backing a misogynistic, racist, child of privilege Nazi fan who uses the R-word. I don't care who he is.

Neither is okay. Platner served two deployments and then went and still decided to work for Blackwater, because his words, it’s “fun to kill people”. Let’s not act like he’s a dyed in the wool good person buried beneath a veneer of crassness. His real character is hid behind a facade of caring.

Republicans looked at DJT's sexual assault & parroted his locker room talk' lie Tell us more about the jokes you tell & laugh at using the 'dark military humor' shield about: ✔️being a a racist ✔️homophobia ✔️ra*pe apology ✔️committing war crimes ✔️Naԑi symbols ✔️being an anti-Semite ✔️using the r-word

But he knew that Punisher symbology has ties to fascism so he found it abhorrent The Totenkopf on his chest? Didn't know what it was, never recognized it in any of the movies he watched or books he read, and he certainly wasn't curious about it🤡 bsky.app/profile/gree...

Platner wants you to believe: he's a mil historian but didn't know what a Totenkopf was his fav 🎥 is Come and See but didn't know what a Totenkopf was he understands all abt Naԑi death's head Punisher but that he never thought abt the the tattoo on his own chest: a Naԑi death's head Totenkopf ⤵️

“Dark military humor?” Saying you ENJOYED killing people? Women who are raped should’ve worn Kevlar underwear? “Jesus was a ZOMBIE?” You should educate yourself Adam. It’s not my responsibility to give you facts.

At the end of the day, who would you rather have in the Senate? Platner or Collins? At this point I'd rather have Platner any day. The reality is that no one's ever going to have a perfect candidate. Focus on their agenda and whether it's something you can work with.

What you'd go with any day: 🚨racist 🚨homophobic 🚨ableist 🚨ra¶e apologist 🚨⚪️Supremacist tat covering a ⤵️ 🚨Naԑi Totenkopf tat 🚨anti-Semite 🚨inability to take responsibility 🚨liar 🚨hypocrite 🚨0️⃣ pol exp 🚨0️⃣ understanding of civics or how gov't, legislation, systems work You sound just like Platner⤵️

“A perfect candidate”??? I think wanting a candidate without any association with nazi symbolism or ideology is a pretty low-freaking-bar to clear.

You’d rather have Platner? I’d rather have neither, but at least with Collins, you know what you’re getting. There are imperfect candidates and then there are BAD candidates. Platner is a very bad candidate. He’ll be Fetterman 2.0 if we’re lucky. It’s not too late for Maine to choose someone else.

You do know there is still another Democrat in the Maine Senate race right? Why is it let's excuse Platner's sexism/ racism because that's what Republicans do and not - lets look at this other candidate who we wouldn't have to compromise our values to vote for? spectrumlocalnews.com/me/maine/pol...

That may be why you're concerned. Divining someone's alt meaning when the actual words are there for all to read - '𝗠𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻' - is wild Moving on, he's said he: changed was joking nobody cares had PTSD you're disgusting for questioning him was young he's a victim bsky.app/profile/gree...

Let's talk about the IBEW They're really excited abt Planter BECAUSE he's "a Manchin, Fetterman type" The 2 who most "frequently butted heads with the party base" The base of the Democratic party are Black, Hispanic, and Asian people Now, whyte is it that Platner supporters are excited by that?

Nonsense. Both represent much of what is destructive in civil society. That’s the interesting thing. And are you sure the same characters excuse the one and condemn the other. Lots of your fellow citizens enjoy both. You probably have plenty of friends who do. Do you know any educated women?

Is this person who is opposed to Platner and excusing Trump in the room with us right now. Is this also one of the people the President says is praising them in gratitude with tears in their eyes? Also, who has ordered you to go beat up strawmen on Mr. Totenkopf's behalf?

Is it dark military humor when Platner says that Black people don't tip & then invents a Black friend who turns his racist slander into a faux teachable moment? Are bigotry and dishonesty military values? He's a mess, don't defend him.

I agree. Democrats don’t need to be the political Miss Manners. They need candidates who can communicate with the most people. There are a lot of Dem and independent voters who do not have white collar jobs and do not want to be talked down to.

I don’t think very many people on the left excused Trump’s statements. But also, Trump wasn’t joking about literally killing people, and while I’d draw the line such that jokes about both rape and murder are off limits, I could see someone drawing the line somewhat differently.

Tens of millions of us didn't "excuse" Trump's "locker room talk." As for Platner, blaming rape victims for their assaults, accusing Black people of being cheap & getting a Nazi tattoo & then lying about knowing its significance for 18 years isn't "dark military humor."

Obviously Platner making those comments isn’t nearly as bad as actually *committing* sexual assault/etc like Trump did, but it sure as hell shouldn’t be shrugged off either. And he wasn’t just a “dumb kid” either. He was making some of the offensive comments less than 5 yrs ago, in his late 30s.

In fact, he appeared on and *praised* an open antisemite’s podcast just 2 months ago & used the “R” word as a slur just last month…while trying to defend the Nazi tattoo in a public interview.

I appreciate the willingness to call out- rather than use - bad behavior. One question is whether DT voters will vote for Platner. The second is how did we get here? The most important, How do we get out of here? Excuses do not help us.

Agree here. I haven't actually heard anything what he said while deployed. Everything I have read is after he is home. I think grown ups know what is appropriate and what isn't. For example, I don't think Rep Kinzinger used "dark military humor" while campaigning because he knows what's appropriate

I realize the stakes but unless you live in Maine the hand wringing is for naught it’s like people from Omaha having an expert opinion on Mandami but guess what it doesn’t matter it’s settled by the voters in their elections!!

Trump's locker room talk wasn't acceptable to democrats. Republicans like you thought it was okay. Some independents might have too. Point being you still have the moral fortitude of the rest of your ilk.

Really! Like, why are Jewish people and Black people making such a big deal over a guy who has a habit of taking off his shirt to show off his nazi tattoo? #sarchasm

Are the people who were excusing Trump's locker room talk now criticizing Platner? Bc I don't think that's the case. The reason it's an issue *now* is that Republican base voters like joking about sexual assault and Democratic base voters.

I am a combat veteran. Dark military humor is how people who have seen real things survive real things. Trump described grabbing women without consent and called it locker room talk. He would not last one day in an actual locker room that earned that name.

Mr. Kinzinger, for a Republican you seem to at least put country over your party. But don't presume to lecture Democrats about how to deal with rapists and sexual assaulters. We police our own, and we didn't excuse locker room talk. Ask Franken, Weiner, and Swalwell if you don't believe me.

Platner didn't have bone spurs. An enlisted grunt in Fallujah, he wrote the blank check. His business was killing & business was good. The Man in the Arena. People want perfect, & if not that, then better. But they should vote for Collins or quit using her talking points. Fucking Republicans.

It’s not an either/or. Neither was acceptable at the time and all of it continues to be unacceptable. As a Maine voter, I will not even be ranking Platner. He is completely unqualified.

Is there any reason to believe anything he is saying? He literally said he didn’t know his tattoo was Nazi symbolism. That doesn’t pass the most generous of bullshit tests. He doesn’t have any real history of activism and he was a hired mercenary, ffs! Maybe US Senate isn’t an entry level position.

Is there any good reason to believe anything any politician says? I can tell you GP has been traveling around ME meeting lots of people, answering lots of questions directly from voters. Maybe he’s the pied piper but voters are responding positively to what he’s saying.

There is no evidence that what you call “policy positions” are anything more than talking points. Unlike Costello and LaFlamme, he has no political history to back up his rhetoric.

None of it should be okay - with the obvious point that behaviors are on a continuum. As long as "boys will be boys" is still part of our culture, boys/men will continue to objectify girls/women. We females are still seen as madonnas or whores - not as full fledged humans - by too many American men.
