Candidates from *both* parties are calling for the federal and/or state gas taxes to be suspended, which makes sense from an election POV but seems like a TERRIBLE idea from a fiscal/budgetary (and also environmental) POV. Even if you support doing so, when exactly would they be reinstated?

I would only agree to a gas tax suspension if it was coupled with a meaningful increase in the marginal tax rates on hugely profitable corporations and uber-wealthy individuals. Otherwise no dice.
