I genuinely do not understand how people like Kingdom Hearts. I’ve tried to play the first game at least 3 times and I just do not get the appeal at all.

The dialogue is horribly stilted, the combat is clunky and floaty. I don’t even have the normal complaint of “ohhh it’s just SOOO complicated” it’s just not that interesting story wise. I like esoteric bullshit.

From the beginning you get the impression this is like a neverland island situation where they’re all kids and then suddenly there’s a cutscene with Sora in his house with his parents there and they’re just genuinely never mentioned again??

The furthest I’ve gotten is the Aladdin world where Homer Simpson shows up as the Genie and I was like “okay I’m genuinely just not having any fun” and stopped. I have had people I know IN REAL LIFE say to me “nahh man kingdom hearts TWO is where it gets good” and like bro come on now.

I don’t mean this as like a hate post if you like kingdom hearts I just genuinely don’t understand it. I’ve been able to play games before for a few hours without finishing it and go away from it like “oh yeah I can see why people like this” but I cannot do that here and I don’t get it at all lol

BOO YEAH Metal Slimes!

@metalsli.me

When I was 18yo, I played the first two games basically back-to-back right when KH2 was coming out, and I’ll admit I was charmed. It was novel to explore these weird mish-mash of FF and Disney. But like you I genuinely cannot understand how the series still holds so much sway in 2026.
