If you are a freelancer you need to know what happened to me and be ready for it. Two years after being sued, four years after the article was published, I am owed over $200,000 by the Plaintiff & have gotten nothing. How to you keep reporting after this? colleenmondor.substack.com/p/58-i-am-th...

But winning a SLAPP suit doesn't mean the plaintiff is punished for the damage they have inflicted in their baseless claim. It means they are supposed to pay all legal fees but will only do so if forced. It means they can continue to fly federal contracts while owing hundreds of thousands of $$.

So, I've got to get a collections attorney and pay them to get the money that is owed to me. That's how the system works and if you are a freelancer you better study this case and be ready. Folks will feel bad about what happened but it will still be you alone at the end of the day.

No one in aviation media covered this lawsuit. It never merited a single line mention in a single aviation publication that a commuter airline flying millions in Essential Air Service contracts sued a reporter for reporting on their operation. It got lonely real fast when that lawsuit dropped.
